| Darren: From the US, flying to Dubai usually means a change of planes in Europe . United and USAirways will connect with Lufthansa in Frankfurt, Northwest with KLM in Amsterdam, Delta with Air France in Paris, etc. The only nonstop to the area I think is on Malaysian from Newark to Dubai. Gulf or Emirates (I can't remember which --- the latter, I think) is to start service to the states on a nonstop basis soon. |

It's because of the cost of fuel in the Middle East recently Darren
Re-fuelling a jumbo in Dubai costs a pretty packet since Al Quaeda began targetting Saudi oil barons and ex-pats. _________________ The Avatar? Not really a tropical paradise... it is South Shropshire, UK. |

Dubai boasts 272 hotels with 30,000 rooms, 30 shopping malls and almost 5 million foreign visitors a year. Its airport's capacity is being tripled to 60 million passengers a year so they're clearly expecting an increase in visitors over the longer term.
The oil situation isn't one that'll just affect Dubai and the Middle East, I don't think. It'll affect tourism globally. The recent rise in oil prices will simply affect airfares on a global basis and some airlines have already said they'll increase fares. Apparently Emirates have come out and said they may not implement price surcharges across the board.

Thanks for that Paul.
Just to add the UAE Government is expecting over 40 million holidaymakers visiting Dubai within the next ten years. It's spending "billions" on tourism, and includes arabian Disney style theme parks, formula one track, and introducing a new airline within ten years time which will be the equivilant of Easyjet for cheaper flights to Dubai.

...and I'm guessing the new site you're working on is no coincidence.
Looks like a good move for you given the circumstances, particularly if you can tie in some of the content from your existing holiday rental site. I'm guessing that should be possible now that you're all PHP/MySQL driven.

... you guessed right!
We are hopefully going to be working on marketing and promoting one particular complex, which will house 4,000 villas and 2,000 apartments, and the Dubai website will be used to bring in visitors who are looking for Dubai villas, apartments along with some hotels, but I might be dropping the hotels.. not sure yet..
How have you found optimising websites relating to hotels? I'm doing some testing at the moment on the main site, but Google is not playing by not indexing my test pages
It's the time and effort that it's going to take to optimise part of the site for hotels which is making me think about dropping that section of the website.
The only area of work on the WWHH website is the mod rewrite, which when I get five minutes to do some research I need to contact you about, to see if Dedicate can help me on that. _________________ Worldwide Holiday Homes | Travel Rants Blog | Florida Travel Guide |

Well my test page has gone well.. straight up to No.1 for Dubai villa, Dubai villa rental, villa to rent in Dubai etc. Obviously, not that much competition around!
Thanks for the info on flights, just drawing up a list of airlines.. so I'll post it on here for anyone who is interested.

Excellent Paul
It's an easy location to optimise on but, it doesn't bring many visitors either because on the test page I've only had around 10 unique visitors, doesn't appear to be the demand at the moment.. next stop.. Dubai Hotel / Dubai Hotels.. see how easy this one is.
