There's a new magazine aimed at gay travellers looking for destinations where they'll be welcomed.
The February issue of The Out Traveler showcases a monument in Amsterdam in honour of gays who were persecuted during the Nazi era and other periods of history; a gay neighbourhood in Edinburgh, Scotland; and "gay sites" - like the Oscar Wilde Bookshop - in Manhattan's Chelsea and Greenwich Village neighbourhoods.
There's also a story about planning a same-sex marriage ceremony in Massachusetts, and ads from tourism bureaus vying for the vacation dollars of the gay community. "Visit gay-friendly Quebec," reads one ad. "Philadelphia: Get your history straight and your nightlife gay," reads another.

I've got the first two issues of this magazine, sent to me free along with my subscription to the Advocate, a news magazine. I've not looked too closely at it, but will have to. On the other hand, I read Budget Travel cover to cover.
My frustration with some gay travel publications is that they seem to base their assumptions on an assertion that gay men have more disposable income, and therefore the prices reflect that. I get brochures from a number of travel operators, and the vast majority are on the luxury end, not much for a person like myself who doesn't require all of the pampering. I also realize that this may be a niche market within the gay niche market. I have found one tour company that focuses on adventure travel, and appear to have some interesting trips cycling through the Loire valley or the Alps, trekking in Thailand, and eco-touring in Costa Rica. However, like the others, I think some of them are way over priced.
Hopefully this magazine will help those of us who like to travel independently. If I read one more vapid piece about a fabulous gay cruise, I think I'm gonna hurl. |

My lover and I are starting a revolution!
We're TIRED of being labeled "DINKs" (Double Income No Kids) as if that makes us wealthy little queers eager to toss our funds freely at those who have suddenly become "gay friendly accommodations!"
We've decided to become "QUEENs" (Quit Underwriting Everyone Else's Nestegg!) and we're starting an LGBT membership driven travel club where members can meet other members online and offer free to relatively inexpensive accomodations while they travel! _________________ http://www.hospigaiety.com

I checked out the web site of OUT TRAVELER MAGAZINE
http://www.outtraveler.com/
it lookes really good! I haven't seen a copy of their magazine yet; but if their web site is any indication, it's a really "SLICK BABY!"
Speaking of "slick babies" my lesbian-parent friend told me her new adopted baby had dry skin and she litterally SOAKED him in Baby Oil for... "Like an hour!" she said.
I asked her if it helped, she said, "I don't know... we haven't been able to catch him yet!" _________________ http://www.hospigaiety.com
