Weitmoserschlössl Castle   
In 1550 the merchant Christopher Weitmoser acquired the ancient Goldeckerhof which unfortunately burnt down in 1553. It was quickly rebuilt and this late Gothic building is incorporated into the northern part of the castle.

Wels Zoo   
Wels zoo, which is housed in and around the 16th century Herminenhof, is the oldest in Austria. Development was interrupted by the Second World War but by 1967 the zoo already housed 372 different animals.

Wien Museum   
The Modernist building of Wien Museum houses permanent and temporary exhibitions, presenting Vienna’s, and other cities, history. Exhibits include Roman archaeological finds, Gothic stained glass and statues, artefacts dating from the 16th and 17th century Turkish sieges of the city, and a wealth of paintings.

Wiener Glasmuseum   
Housed in the exclusive J. & L. Lobmeyr shop on Kärtnerstrasse, the Wiener Glasmuseum tells the history of Lobmeyr-glass from its humble beginnings in 1823. Almost 200 years of work can be seen in the magnificent exhibits of antique glass and crystal.

Wildeneck Castle   
The ruins of Schloss Wildeneck, lying in the Schoberwald, can be reached by foot from the west bank of the Irrsee.

Wildenstein Castle   
Schloss Wildenstein, which stands on a steep rocky spur, dates approximately from the 11th to 12th centuries and became an imperial stronghold in 1419. The castle burned down twice, the first time in 1593 and secondly in 1715 after which it was abandoned and fell into disrepair.

World Heritage Museum   
In its collections and exhibitions, the Welterbe-Museum charts the history of the area over the last 7000 years. Hallstadt was an important centre in prehistoric times as a result of the salt works.

ZOOM Children’s Museum   
Everything from Art to Science to Culture is covered in this, the only Children’s Museum in Austria. Covering all ages up to 14, the museum aims to introduce kids to museums in a fun and interactive manner.

Zeughaus   
Housed in the former armoury built by Maximilian I for the manufacturer of gunpowder and cannon, this museum depicts the history of the Tyrol region. Beginning with the silver mines which were exploited in medieval times the exhibits also include artefacts from the religious struggles of the 16th century.

Zipf Brewery   
The Viennese banker Franz Shaup opened the first Zipf brewery in 1858, which makes it quite a young brewing concern for Austria.
