Riedegg Castle
Schloß Riedegg was built around the year 1145 by Gottschalk von Haunsperg on the site of a much older wooden building. It passed into the hands of the Starhemberg family in the early 15th century and remained so until the death of Count Johann Heinrich 1857.

Rockhouse
Rockhouse, in contrast to Salzburg’s more traditional cultural venues, presents a program of jazz, pop, folk, blues, heavy metal, punk, cross-over, underground, contemporary and avant-garde music mainly aimed at the younger generation. Since the opening in 1993, there have been an average of 200 events presented to 100,000 people held here.

Roman Museum
The Ochzethaus, a unique piece of vernacular architecture and one of the oldest farmhouses in the region, houses the Römer-Erlebnismuseum which was created to show how the Romans lived and influenced the life and culture of Upper Austria.

Roman Tower
The Römerturm, literally Tower of the Romans, is situated in the middle of Dorfgastein, next to the Hotel Römerhof, one of the oldest taverns in the Gastein valley. The historic old tower, constructed in 1340, is the central feature of the town.

Rudolf’s Tower
The Rudolfsturm, which has superb views of Hallstatt and the surrounding mountains, is part of a ruined castle built in the years 1282 to1284 by Duke Albrecht I to protect the town from the threat of takeover by the Prince-Bishops of Salzburg.

Rupertisee & Theme Trail
The Rupertisee, at an elevation of 1580 metres, is a storage reservoir built to provide water for the creation of artificial snow in the winter. Because of its wonderful situation with amazing panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys it has become an essential place to visit.

Russian Heroes’ Monument
The ‘Russen Heldendenkmal’ monument, by sculptor Intizaryan and architect Yakovlev, was unveiled on May 8, 1949.

Salm Braeu
Producing delicious beers, brewed according to old recipes, and pleasant award winning beer brandies, this working brewery, with a 450 year history, coincide tours with the three batches of brew made each week. See the brewmaster making Pilsner Beer and Weizen Beer using traditional processes and Bavarian traditions.

Salt Mine
Salt has been mined at the Salzwelten Altaussee for 800 years and it is still in active production. The mine has the largest salt deposits in the country and has been open to visitors for over 100 years.

Salt Mine
The salt of the Dürrnberg Mountain gives its name to the famous city and the province of Salzburg. The mining of this ‘white gold’ generated the wealth which financed the building of the baroque Aldstadt in the city.
