Old Cathedral - Jesuit Church of St. Ignatius
The Baroque cathedral, designed by Pietro Francesco Carlone, was built between 1669 and 1678 for the Jesuits but fell into decline after the dissolution of the order in 1773. It was made the cathedral church in 1783 and served as such until 1909.

Old City
The well preserved Altstadt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is characterized by the old world charm of its narrow streets, plazas, fountains, baroque buildings, cafes, stores selling designer fashions, museums and souvenir shops.

The town of Böckstein is the location of the historic Montansiedlung Altböckstein mining settlement established in 1741 by Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg Sigismund von Schrattenbach to accommodate the gold workers, after the former location of the miners’ houses was destroyed by an avalanche.

The present Rathaus was built under the orders of Markus Sittikus on the site of much older remains going back at least to the 12th century . The front of the building was remodelled in Rococo style in the 18th century.

The Freilichtmuseum features 60 farmhouses, barns, mills, craftsmen’s cottages and alpine pastures, some dating back 500 years and a historic inn with beer garden.

In Wieden near Bad Hofgastein you will find Austria’s one and only organic beer brewery specialising in wheat beer. The traditional brews are made with the finest organic hops and malt using pure spring water with additives, pasturisation or filtration.
