Museum of Medical History
Having seen the primitive, and sometimes barbaric, surgical techniques used on the battlefields, the Institute for Military Surgery was set up by Emperor Josef II in the late 18th century. Although the institute closed in 1872 the building now houses a museum.

Museum of Modern Art Salzburg Mönchsberg
The Museum der Moderne Mönchsberg is spectacularly situated on the site of the former Café Winkler which, for many years, housed the Salzburg casino. After the casino moved to Kleßheim castle the Winkler remained empty for some time and was eventually replaced with the museum, opening in 2004.

Museum of Modern Art Salzburg Rupertinum
The Salzburg Museum of Modern Art is housed in two separate locations. The first is the Museum der Moderne Rupertinum which is housed in a building originally dating back to 1350, though not completed until the 17th century, and subsequently used as a seminary until the late 20th century.

Museum of Natural History
Salzburg’s Haus der Natur is housed in the former Ursuline Convent. It contains an extensive range of live exhibits and is especially noted for its aquariums with collection of Mediterranean species and tropical corals as well as the reptile zoo.

Museum of Technology
Although he never saw it open to the public this museum was conceived in 1908 to mark the 60th anniversary of Emperor Franz Josef’s reign. Exhibits are arranged in sections: Energy, Heavy Industry, Images of Technology, Innovation Forum, Musical Instruments, Nature and Knowledge and Transport.

Museum of the History of Dentistry in Upper Austria
The exhibits of the Dental Museum show how dentistry has changed since the 17th century, with displays of numerous devices and tools, starting from a simple barber’s stool to the first dental drills operated by foot as well as the first fluoroscope.

Museum of the Working World
The Museum Arbeitswelt is Steyr’s industrial museum. It was set up following a Upper Austrian exhibition “Arbeit/Mensch/Maschine” which was staged in 1987 to chart the development of industry from the earliest times to the present.

MuseumsQuartier
Opened in 2001, the MuseumsQuartier is one of the ten largest cultural complexes in the world and as well as the galleries, museums, performance and arts spaces, it boasts some fantastic cafés, restaurants and shops.

Musikverein
The Musikverein and the ‘Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde’ (Society of Music Lovers) are inseparably linked and this concert hall, known throughout the world as the centre of Viennese musical culture, is a mainstay of the international concert circuit; classical music heaven.

Mölker Bastei
With its beautiful houses and narrow cobbled lanes, this enclave is also one of the few parts of the city which still retains some of the original zig-zag ramparts of the Innere Stadt fortifications. This is a quiet, elevated place, seemingly hidden away from the frenetic activity of the Ringstrasse below.
