Marriage Fountain   
Fischer von Erlach’s ‘Vermählungsbrunnen’ was originally made of wood but his son replaced the fountain in 1792 with white marble with decoration of the figures by Antonio Corradini.

Mauterndorf Castle   
Schloss Mauterndorf, situated on a rocky outcrop to the northwest of the market town of Mauterndorf, was built in the 14th century, and extended in the early 16th century to protect the southern end of the Radstadt Tauern Pass.

Mauthausen Concentration Camp   
Mauthausen, opened in 1938, was the cruelest camp in the Nazi concentration camp system and was built as a punishment camp to accommodate criminals and political prisoners, although towards the end of the Second World War Jewish prisoners were also sent here.

Michael Haydn Museum   
The Johann Michael Haydn Museum, in the court of St. Peter’s Abbey, contains an exhibition showing the life and times of this great Austrian composer and performer. Johann Michael Haydn was the brother of Joseph Haydn.

Michaelbeuern Benedictine Abbey   
The history of the Benediktinerabtei of Michaelbeuern, founded in 736, goes back to the Carolingian period and the monastery was once one of the wealthiest in Austria.

Michaelertrakt   
This southern gateway into the Hofburg began life in 1726; designed by Joseph Emanuel Fischer von Erlach. It wasn’t until 1893 that the imposing neo-baroque green cupola and exuberant arch were completed by Ferdinand Kirscher.

Mill Museum   
Just outside Ebenau there are a number of historic water mills, seven in total, which are open to the public. For example, the Edermühle, where oats, corn and rye were ground, was built in 1742 and was working until 1955.

Minorite Monastery   
The Minoriten monastery was established in Wels in 1280 and by 1300 a large early gothic church stood here, of which the choir remains today. Additions were made to the building in the 16th century and the baroque façade was installed following a fire in 1748.

Minorite Church   
The little Minoritenkirche is a lovely Rococo building built by Johann Krimmer which was finished in 1758 and incorporates parts of a 13th century monastery. The interior is decorated with white, yellow and pink stucco by the artist Kaspar Modler.

Mirabell Palace   
The Schloss Mirabell was built in 1606 by Prince Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau for his mistress Salome Alt. The palace was given its present name in 1612 by his successor, Markus Sittikus von Hohenems.
