Magic Flute Lodge
The Zauberflötenhäuschen is located in the Bastionsgarten of the Mozarteum Foundation, which is connected to the Mirabell Garden. It can be reached from the Mozarteum concert halls.

Main Square
The beautiful Hauptplatz, which was laid out in 1260, is an enormous two hundred and nineteen by sixty metre square close to the Danube at the southern end of the Niebelungenbrücke. With an area of approximately 13,000 m² it is Austria’s largest town square.

At the heart of Freistadt lies the Hauptplatz, a large square surrounded by merchant’s houses. The buildings are mainly Gothic in origin but have magnificent Renaissance and Baroque facades.

Mammoth Caves
The Mammuthöhle, stretching for 40 kilometres or more, is the largest of approximately 200 caves in the Dachstein district. Its name derives not from the discovery of mammoth bones but because of its size. The cave passages, formed by the erosion of ancient rivers, reach up to 20 metres high.

Maria Loreto Church and Convent
The Loretokirche and convent were built for a group of Swedish refugee nuns from Landshut between 1633 and 1648. The buildings suffered heavy damage due to a fire in 1818 and bombing during 1944. The church was restored to its original condition in the period condition from 1947 to 1949.

Maria Theresa Monument
Staring out onto Neuer Platz, this monument was the first to be dedicated to the Empress Maria Theresia, Queen of the Hapsburg Austria Empire who reigned for fourty years from 1740.

Maria am Gestade
Although much of what you see now is 19th century restoration, having been desecrated and then used as an arms depot and stable by Napoleon’s army, this church was mentioned in documents dating from 1158.

Maria of the Good Counsel Pilgrimage Church
The church of Altböckstein is its predominant feature standing on a small hill in a position originally chosen by Archbishop Sigismund of Schrattenbach for a private mansion. The Archbishop ordered the church’s construction by the master builder Christian Glaner to a design by the architect Wolfgang Hagenauer.

Marian Column
In the middle of the Domplatz is the Marienstatue, built in 1771 by Wolfgang and Johann Baptists Hagenauer.

Marionette Museum
The Marionette Museum is located cellars of the world famous Hohensalzburg Fortress. This unique museum contains many historic marionettes from the well known Salzburg Marionette Theatre as well as items from various countries in Europe and Asia.
