Georg Trakl Memorial and Research Centre
The poet Georg Trakl was born in Salzburg and although trained as a pharmacist began publishing his poetry in his twenties. He died at the age of 27 during World War I in hospital in Krakow after committing suicide in a fit of depression.

Gerlos Alpine Road
The winding Gerlos Alpenstrasse, which connects the Salzburger Pinzgau and the Tiroler Zillertal, is open all year round and is the route to the famous Krimml waterfalls and the national park in the Pinzgau. The road climbs to an altitude of 1,630 metres over its length of 12 kilometres.

Gerzkopf Nature Reserve

Getreidegasse
The Getreidegasse, which has been a major thoroughfare since Roman times, is Salzburg’s premier shopping street. But, besides the expensive boutiques and elegant hotels, the street has many other claims to fame, as for centuries it was one of the best neighbourhoods in the city.

Gisela Steamer
The 52 metre long historic steamship “Gisela”, designed and built by the English engineer Joseph John Ruston, came into service in 1872 to provide much needed transport on the Traunsee.

Globe Museum
There are nearly 400 globes on display in this museum linked to the Austrian National Library; the only one of its kind in the world. Although globes have been recorded as kept at the library since the 16th century the museum was founded in 1956.

Gmunden Ceramics
The famous Gmundner Keramik is the largest ceramics factory in mid-Europe and produces over 10,000 pieces a day. It was founded by Franz and Emilie Schleiss in 1903 and is presently owned by Johannes Graf von Moy.

Grabungsfeld
These remains were discovered during construction work for an underground car park. The renowned architect Hans Hollein was brought in to plan and lay out the site so visitors can see the several levels of architecture dating back almost 2000 years when the city was the Roman garrison town of Vindobona.

Graz Clock Tower
The 16th century ‘Uhrturm’, or clock tower, is only one of two features which still exist from the destruction of the city’s defences following the Treaty of Vienna. Napoleon’s armies were paid 2,987 florins and 11 farthings to prevent the tower from being destroyed during the 1809 French invasion.
