| can someone who has done a bit of overland travel please explain what a carnet is, how to get one, and most important, how much it's gonna cost me. Cheers. |

Mike,
The only Carnet I know of, is a Carnet for merchandise travelling to different countries.
It is like a Passport - but for goods.
Usually the Intended use of goods on a Carnet are for Exhibition , Fairs or Professional Equipment.

I think we're gonna need a little more info here. What exactly are you trying to do and where? In London you can buy a carnet of tube tickets to use the underground in zone 1. This means buying a job lot of 10 tickets at a discount, though is now being overtaken by the Oyster Card.
