Hi guys, anyone been to Vorkuta or the polar end of the Urals in Russia? I am told that the town of Vorkuta is seriously ugly and has a ghastly history but that the natural wilderness nearby is something special. Anyone any thoughts or comments?
cheers

Where you from?
Are you really from Moscow or it`s just a joke?
If you are in Moscow, then your asking that question here is strange to me....
Vorkuta has straight railway connection to Moscow and the air flights are regular.
But Vorkuta actually is not about tourism. You coud find yourself in nowhere, far on north, surronded by wild and unreachable places. You better seach for russian or yor local travel agency to find out more about that. The most popular region for international ecological tourism is Kumchatka (Far East of Russia). The nature there is fantastic.
