I've just returned from a skiing and snowboarding holiday in Sestriere, Sansicario, and Claviere. Although their was very little snow (spring conditions in January - not good) we were still able to ski.
Sestriere stood out well ahead of the other resorts. It is to be home of the winter olympics in 2006 and they have spent a bundle on the place. The new lifts and catering facilities are excellent! There is a good selection of runs for the intermediate and advanced. The big downhill run is well worth a go if you feel up to it!
Sansicario is worth a visit as well. It offers a pretty good selection of runs for the intermediate and advanced but with loads of sun about a lot of the lower runs were closed with grass showing.
Claviere is pretty good but I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. The beginner slopes were narrow and dull and I didn't hear anything positive about the teachers on offer. Its OK for intermediates.
Oh, and the food in the region is better than in most European resorts!
Good luck
