I was just reading the new posts when I can across a lad from Toronto trying to recruit players for his Aussie Rules Football team. Post is here.

I understand that advertising is not allowed. However, does this count as advertising? This is a guy looking for players for his recreational AFL team, which would seem like a great way for Aussies in Toronto to meet fellow country-mates and share a pint. I guess I am curious as to what the harm in this post is.

Thanks,
Greg

P.S. I have no affliation with the OAFL or any of there teams, just read the message cause it mentioned Toronto.

Good question.

It's a grey area, I know, but anyone that comes on here, and immediately advertises anything (whether it be of a commercial nature or not) is pushing their luck. In any case, they could have put their web address (and message) in their sig file and just got involved in discussions to get their ad across. This is what the advertising guidelines suggest that members do.

Furthermore, that particular post isn't especially travel-related! Razz

It might seem a little strict but if we bend the rules for one or two, then others that come along and try to push the boundaries still further, will cite examples such as this in their defence. The task of the moderating this place is an unenviable one sometimes! Smile

Thanks, Greg... I'd like to take all the credit but alas the other mods must share it with me. Very Happy
