|
|
Taos Pueblo is the longest continuously inhabited building in the USA. One of the Pueblo's annual historic events is Pow Wow. From their web site: "The Taos Pueblo Pow Wow Committee extends a warm welcome and invitation to all, to participate and experience the 19th Annual Taos Pueblo Pow Wow."
The Annual Taos Pueblo Pow Wow was established to showcase the natural beauty of the tribal homelands of the Taos Pueblo People. The mountains and valley of Taos have long since been an attraction to people from all over the world. Taos Pueblo, historically, was a gathering place for tribes from all directions. Trading included songs and dances, many are still used today by Taos Pueblo.
What is Pow Wow? Essentially a dance contest for Native Americans to compete in their traditional dances. Classes range from under 6 yrs to adults over 50. Historically and culturally a spectacle that all should see. Schedule and photos at their web site. _________________ John Slenes says url=http://www.newmex.com/indianhillsinn]Visit Indian Hills Inn

The Annual Taos Pueblo Pow Wow takes place every second weekend in July. This year's event will take place July 9, 10, 11, 2004. The Taos Pueblo Pow Wow committee hosts this event at the beautiful grounds north of the historic Taos Pueblo. The Taos Pueblo Pow Wow does have its own website that gives information on the origins of pow wow and features different pictures of dancers and of the area.
Please keep in mind that this celebration is a social event and not considered a traditional ceremony for the Taos Pueblo peoples. We do encourage the public to attend. This is a very festive event, undoubtedly one of the most colorful around. There are many unique artists that will showcase their artwork as well and at least 15 different kinds of food booths to sample.
So if you're in the area, please come and visit us! |

This years Pow Wow is July 10-12, 2009. Just about always the 2nd weekend of July. The Pueblo web site has not been updated for this year but you can google "Taos Pueblo" and view much more data about the Pueblo. See you in Taos! _________________ John Slenes says url=http://www.newmex.com/indianhillsinn]Visit Indian Hills Inn

Quinn? Why would you ask for more information and if hotels book fast early if you provide a link to a Taos vacation planning web site in your post? Particularly when you're responding to a thread that was started 5 years ago.
It smells fishy, so I'll remind you to read the warning on advertising in the forums. |

Recently talked to the organizers of this years Taos Pueblo Pow Wow. They do have a web site focused on the Pow Wow. http://www.taospueblopowwow.com/ .
We'll be hosting at least a couple Pow Wow workers and / or dancers at Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza. I'm hoping we'll have at least one family of dancers. Their silver and turquoise ladden costumes are a weighty endeavor. Very impressive!
Although a busy weekend, most hotels haven't filled completely the last few years. When booking a hotel, you always save yourself and the hotel money by calling direct. In other words, I advise against using the online travel agents. Some have very restrictive cancellation policies, some have excessive added wee wee fees. Plus direct assures you of the best accuracy, usually the most reasonable rates. Plus I hate it when my computer and your computer do lunch and you and I pick up the tab _________________ John Slenes says url=http://www.newmex.com/indianhillsinn]Visit Indian Hills Inn
