Got 6 days in Algarve....where best to stay??

Hi everyone
I've got a bit of a last minute hol booked for a week on Monday (26 March - 1 April)...well, when I say holiday I mean I've got a flight! I'm flying into Faro and was wondering what area to look for accommodation. I like places that are scenic, nice beaches and where there is some traditional Portugese stuff to see (i.e. not total tourist traps). I'll have a car so will be mobile (though I don't want to spend the entire time driving!).

It seems there's a lot of rentals in Lagos and Albufeira, though from what I can tell Albufeira is quite touristy...? Is it worth heading a bit further afield and aiming for the West coast, around Aljezur?

If anyone has any recommendations then I've be v grateful
