Anyone have any experience of purchacing disposable contact lenses while travelling around the world. I don't want to have to buy/carry 6 months supply around with me when backpacking around Thailand, Singerpore, Australia etc. I have a funny feeling that they would be cheaper abroad, but certainly wouldn't want to be stranded somewhere without any. Please advise!

I don't know anything about this, Pete... but you did get me wondering: for travel, is it not perhaps easier to have the non-disposable variety and plenty of solution with you? I guess new solution might be easier to get hold of than new disposable contact lenses.

Or is this not really an option for comfort reasons? Not being a contact lens wearer, I'm afraid I don't really know... Wink

Hi Paul!

Thanks for your response! I had been wondering the same thing to be honest. However, disposables or so convenient, hygenic, comfortable that I would rather continue with them. It allows you to go stay overnight somewhere without having to create your own little laboratory Very Happy . I have heard since posting, from somebody who buys their annual supply of disposables for Malaysia at about 1/10 cost of the UK prices. I'm concidering taking a few months worth with me, to get me through Thailand and Singapore. 3 months worth comes in a fairly large 400x160x30 mm box, but I suppose thats not the end of the world.

Pete,

I have the same problem. I currently use daily desposable contact lenses and I'm going away for a month to Australia rather than taking 31+ contact lenses I contacted my optician who has said I can go on to monthly disposable lenses.

Then I will only take 3 lenses. 1 for the 4 weeks away and 2 for when I drop down them down the toilet when Ive had a few Beer

Solution does come in small travel bottles www.wellbeing.com

Hope this is of some assistance,
Darren Smile

Presumably monthly disposables (hadn't heard of those) will require you carry to solution with you... is that right?

Then again there are fortnightly disposable lenses. Thats what I am on at present for cost reasons as much as anything. Used to be on daily disposables.

You need solution for anything other than daily disposables. It does not take up much space.

Returninmg to the original question, you may find that many opticians will not dispense lenses unless they have examined your eyes themselves or have permission from your opticians to sell them to you. Don't take risks with your eyes, either get your lenses from your own optician or clear the purchase with them first.

My sister's eyes were in trouble before few years. There were some kind of infection with her eyes. I went to doctor regarding her eyes. Then the doctor advised us to test the eyes first in a optical shop. Then we went for testing & use a optical.

Sorry, i am not able to remember the using product.

But, the most usefulness of this product is , it can be used without any doctor's prescription. Because, it is out of side effects.

Do you have a pair of glasses that you wouldn't mind wearing out and about in a pinch?

I wear Acuvue "Oasys" lenses that are supposed to last about 2 weeks. Since I take them out every night, they usually last me about a month.

I did a 6 month trip in Argentina and just brought along 6 pairs of extra lenses plus a fresh pair in my eyes.

I bet you would have no problem getting new lenses in Australia by going to an optometrist. Thailand and Singapore might be even easier if you just go into a pharmacy and show the prescription on your old box of lenses.

If you don't have glasses, get some as a back up.

Have fun on your trip!
