I started reviewing luxury hotels and resorts about five years ago. You can see my reviews on my site Bombastic Life (see link in signature line).

Maybe that will help generate some ideas.

My favorites though are Africa (South Africa and Tanzania), Bali and Venice.

I'm heading back to Thialand next month and to Africa (South Africa, Botswana, Kenya (maybe), Nambia and possibly back to Tanzania) so my list of favorites may change.

Good luck on picking the right place. So many places to see, just never enough time and money. Smile

Thanks for the compliment on my site -

I'm headed to Thailand next month so be sure to come back and check out the updates. Not going to the places listed above but I might have to try to stop by and check them out.

I see you're from the UK but if you didn't want to go very far afield I recently stayed at Holne Chase Hotel in Dartmoor, in the south west. A very nice place to take your relative! It's very luxurious but a bit old fashioned maybe Wink

The Hotel Ritz in Paris is great. It's of historical and literary significance. And I like the place.

Hi
Forthe ultimate safari destination then it must be Botswana The tourism policy of this country ensures high quality and lowqdesnity. This provides the ultimate safari experience far removed form 1 lion 20m our buses you will find in other destinations,
I ride in a Mokoro is hard to mbeat!

Another place to consider is Zambia and Victoria Falls, wonderful lodges and high quality safaris especially for those who like to walk

my friend has just come back from the Burg al arab in dubai and well, the photos really do look amazing!
she's bought back all sorts of perfumes that were free, soaps and luxury chocs and the place is like living in a palace! their room was the size of my house!
looks amazing!
i'm going to go to dubai soon hopefully but unfortunately my budget doesn't stretch to the Burg!

The Four Seasons at Papagayo Costa Rica is pretty nice.

But Palmilla near Cabo is pretty hard to beat.

The Four Season Huallali on the Big Island is special.

Stayed at the Ihilani Resort in Oahu a few years back. It is quite luxurious and highly recommended!

Myanmar/Burma- take out the politics - and you pretty much have the perfect vacation spot.

You have the excitement of one of Asia's gateway cities such as Bangkok or KL, more varied and interesting culture than you can ever see, and some of the regions finest beaches. It's not cheap but the quality of the hotels is excellent. It is also one of the safest countries in the world in terms of not being a target for thieves or rip off merchants.

Also, the locals involved in tourism really need the support of the travelling community right now.
