Hello! I am new to this. We are planning a trip to tour the UK in April. I have in mind to do a good bit of walking. I need info on hiking, especially in Wales but also Ireland and England. I am very keen to see the non-touristy things, especially ancient sites (I do plan to go to Stonehenge but I know there are many other places).
I wonder, is it possible to hike from town to town in Wales, making one's way North? The perhaps taking a train or bus up to the Lake District?
We are not desperately poor, btw, but will be on a budget! |

Sounds like a lovely plan for a holiday. I don't know how long it will take but you could definitely hike your way around quite a way I am sure - there are enough youth hostels and campsites (if you are taking a tent?) to hike between - although worth planning your route in advance to know what is feasible and not especially as only you know how far you can hike in a day. If distances are really too far you could always hike part of the way and take buses for the rest to get where you need to stay for the night.
There are lots of places near Stonehenge (which is very touristy but still worth seeing in my opinion). But there are also other ancient sites all over the UK. How about Moel Tŷ Uchaf near Llandrillo in North Wales if you want to hike through Wales anyway?
The Lake District is of course a wonderful place to go walking and I have been hiking there stopping in a different campsite each night so that is definitely possible. |

| Thanks so much! We won't be camping so we need to be able to make it to towns. I guess we can walk 10or 15 miles a day, we will be taking it easy. Thanks for the tip on Moel Tŷ Uchaf, gonna check that out right now! |

I guess that could be done in Wales, just about (or at least from village to village - there might be some towns that are more than 15 miles apart). It's very doable in the Lake District (that's definitely the place to go if you like your walking!!) where the towns of the central Lakes are relatively close together. I live on the edge of the Lake District and have done quite a bit of running there, and you can easily get from one town to the next.
One alternative might be to just find a base and hire a car (or use public transport, I get the impression from your posts that might be your preferred option) to go to the places you want to visit. That way you don't have to worry about lugging all your belongings about with you.
Regards
Paul
PS - If you're interested we have a lovely place in a town on the edge of the Lake District, and have availability in April. But that is high season, so the lets are weekly, and run from Friday to Friday.
