Bed bugs are becoming more widespread, causing problems for travelers and the hospitality industry. They can be found in all sorts of places...crevices and cracks in walls, old furniture like bed frames (or the mattress), chairs, sofas, etc.
They can even follow you home in your suitcase, on your clothes, or on any boxes that are being shipped. Once arriving at your home, they will love it and populate it. That actually happened to my relative. After returning home, she was still getting bites, and the doctor said some of them were new bites! So she had pest control professionals go to her home to evaluate the situation and see what could be done. They gave her home a good spray down of chemicals and such, but some bugs still survived. It took a few more tries before they were fully gone.
Have you ever encountered these little creatures? If so, share your tips and experiences! _________________ Evaluate It Discount Travel Program

Thankfully they do not transmit any kind of disease, but bed bugs do bite which can get infected. Simple things like keeping your eye out for signs of the bugs and do not place your clothes and backpack on any cloth furniture can cut down on the chances of running into bed bugs while traveling.

Yeah bedbugs are a pain when you travel in hot climates (sorry couldn´t resist!). And as mentioned not just confined to the chepest hotels either since the tourists cary them from place to place (as mentioned)
When I go backpacking I usualy carry a sarong in my rucksack to spread over the bed if I suspect there are bugs. Obviously they still get you but its one more layer they have to get thru ! _________________ My Spanish Travel Site

What does a bite look like or do people react differently i.e how to you know you have been bitten by a bedbug, Cleaning bed sheets in very hot water will kill the bugs.

In my experience you can tell bedbug bites from mosquito bites because the bedbugs normaly bite lots of times in one area, they tend to leave a group or line of small bites which are normaly close together. Mosquitose on the other hand tend to leave single bites in different exposed areas.
Personaly, I react more strongly to mosquito bites.
Changing the sheets may help, but the bugs normaly live inside the matress itself and they'll still find you in the end ! _________________ My Spanish Travel Site

Luckily, I have only been bitten by bedbugs once, in Thailand. The bites weren't that irritating at all, which surprised me because I come up like the elephant man from a mosquito bite...

We had a really bad problem with bed bugs here in Maine for a while. My friend is a care giver for mentally challenged people and they were trained to check the beds. We shared a room at a hotel once and before he would use the bed he stripped off the sheets and looked along the seams at the edges of the mattress. He said there would remnants of their waste there if there were bedbugs. I tend to check when staying at a hotel now too. _________________ Fine art photographer in Maine

Bed bugs are one of the most irritating creatures on the planet. They are little insects that suck human blood for their survival. Though the commonly accepted is that they are too tiny to be seen, it's not entirely true. These insects often come to life in our homes at night, therefore making it all the more difficult for us to spot a bed bug infestation.
