I was under the impression that CTM was invented in Britain, I guess it's certainly still Indian cuisine, but not exactly "authentic". *shrug*

These don't exactly sound like exclusively Indian dishes either, to me at least, or is there some special way which they're prepared &/or served in Indian cuisine? _________________ car hire Italy - car hire France - car hire Spain |

On the subject of CTM, here's an excerpt from Wikipedia:
| Quote: | | The origins of chicken tikka masala are disputed. A widely reported explanation of the origins of the dish is that it was conceived in a British Bangladeshi[1][3] restaurant in Glasgow in the late 1960s, when a customer, who found the traditional chicken tikka too dry, asked for some gravy.[2] The chef supposedly improvised a sauce from tomato soup, yogurt and spices.[1] This claim has not been incontrovertibly proven, and there are other accounts and hypotheses of its origins. It is generally accepted as an attempt to create an Indian dish that would appeal to the British palate.[4][5] |

An Indian dish conceived in a "British Bangladesh restaurant in Glasgow...." sounds authentic to me. _________________ A sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life--W.A. Ward |

In Indian restaurants there is no such thing as Chicken Tikka Masala, there is just "Chicken Tikka. The real chicken tikka will not work in the UK because it will be too spicy for the locals. So, I guess CTM is a derivative of chicken tikka. Its disputed because we Indians are too anal about the origins of eveything, Almost all Indian food that you find in the west is a watered down version of original Indian food. |

Mmmmmm, I have to say, I love ghee and thanks to this thread, I can not get naan off my mind. YUM!
I prefer the stewed goat curry dishes, but I can't remember the name. Good goat is hard to find though, some of it has such a strong flavor that it negatively impacts the dish. _________________ Bike Friendly BC Hotels |
