I see a lot of people talking about adventure like it's something you get on the weekends after you park your humvee at the nearest campsite (replete with bathroom amenities). This makes me puke.
So what is adventure to you? _________________ -----

I'd like to add that adventrure means different things to different people. To someone who has lived their whole life in a town of 500, adventure would be picking up and moving to a big city. Someone else, who has always been used to the grandest amenities might consider roughing it for a week adventure. One's idea of adventure is going to be reflective of their every day life. _________________ Michelle

Well put Michelle,
To me adventure would be for example, my 3 weeks Costa Rica trip in Nov where I will try for the 1st time to travel via local buses instead of renting a car/truck.
Yeah, I think that would keep things adventureous, considering I am planning to Travel
from the pacific to the Mediterean and into Panama.

I think travel itself is a bit of an adventure. But to specifically define "adventure travel," there needs to be an element of activity to it -- something active, outdoorsy, and probably off the usual tourist path. _________________ Josh Roberts

I would describe it as doing something you would not normally do or something with an element of risk as Paul says. Eg going to somewhere high risk like Israel or somewhere with an extra element of danger associated with it ! _________________ Older women + beer + your mates egging you on = One massive ego trip =) |

Parenthood.
Acting as the general contractor on a kitchen remodel.
Driving the Irish country-side.
For that matter, driving in Boston. Except that's not fun.
I think adventure implies expanding your frame of reference, as YLP suggested; otherwise, it's just risk.
When I was younger, an adventure was any experimental or thoughtless act with near-disastorous results that would provide a very funny story later in life. [Actually, that also describes levelling the pantry sub-floor just two years ago ...] In fact, 'Think of it as an adventure" was code for "We really f' upped this time, didn't we?"
These days, adventure is leaving the house to go to work with out my cell-phone and American Express. |

A new experience. Good, bad or otherwise, it is an experience and you can choose to do it again or not. Adventure does not have to be dangerous or exciting. It might be simply sleeping under the stars in your back yard or running with the bulls through tight streets and no where to hide.
Adventure is stepping out of your comfort zone. |

I agree with you Michelle. Your point gets proven the more people post what an adventure is for them. _________________ Resorts Maniac Blog |

Well, in this forum, "Adventure" should be something that isn't a part of daily routine (for most of us) IMO. For example, crossing Himalayas on foot sounds like an adventure to me ... _________________ Online Education :: Career Development Forum
