The Foreign Office has issued warnings for tourists travelling to three Asian countries affected by the outbreak of so-called bird flu. The advice comes as the Thai health department has admitted that five people suspected of contracting bird flu have now died. The authorities claimed previously that only a six-year-old boy had died.

The Foreign Office has advised travellers against coming into contact with live poultry in Thailand, Vietnam and South Korea, the three countries worst affected by the disease. "Travellers are advised to take sensible precautions such as avoiding bird markets or farms," the advice reads.

The disease has also been found in Cambodia, Indonesia, Pakistan and Japan with a weaker strain detected in Taiwan.
