Yeah, I know. I see that when I go through Yamana's (River) riverbed. I simply can't comprehend. I know that I will get very very sick if I drink that water, and this is no joke. I can't believe that some people brush teeth and take bath using that ... toxic water. _________________ Online Education :: Career Development Forum

I don't know, I feel like that life is getting more and more difficult day by day ...
Water is running now, but I can barely go out during day time. I can take a cab (3 wheeler) to get from point A to point B, but I can't really walk around during day time. It's pretty damn hot and I get exhausted. It's not like that I'm dying after an hour of walk, but once I get home, I'm pretty much finished; I can't really do much after that.
Too many mechanical troubles. Scooter breaks down. Car breaks down. As a result, there is too much waiting time. I'm going to a civilized country called 'Japan' next month; that'll be a nice break probably. I know that there is running clean water there; there is also non-stop constant supply of electricity. Also public transportation system works very well ... _________________ Online Education :: Career Development Forum

I bought a big bucket yesterday; it holds 60+ liters of water. This is where I keep my emergency water supply, and from what I hear, this is a common practice in India. I filled it up and kept it in my bathroom. I should be able to cope with lack of water supply better than before using this.
I am working on a couple of things now, and one thing I'm working on is to help my Indian friend to get Japanese visa. He's been to over half a dozen countries and broken no immigration laws, but he still has to go through a tedious process of getting the visa. Invitation letters, bank statements, tax documents, employment record, salary statements, etc. etc. etc. My god ..., Indian people need to do so much paperwork just to travel for a couple of days and do sight seeing. They say that life is unfair, but that's exactly right ... _________________ Online Education :: Career Development Forum

How many Hindu festivals are there ...?
My friend invited me to have dinner at his place, but there has been a minor change. His wife was supposed to cook chicken curry but she's cooking vegetarian food today. It turned out that today is yet another Hindu festival. I don't know which festival this is, but I'm figuring out that there are so many Hindu festivals. Anyway, no chicken curry today. *** sigh *** _________________ Online Education :: Career Development Forum

You're sounding pretty fed up and frustrated. Sorry to hear that. How long do you plan to be out there for?

Actually I plan to be here for a while, i.e., several years, but there are ups and downs. Especially things can get very difficult in countries like India, and as of right now, I'm experiencing a little difficult time.
Also I'm not exactly an upbeat person by nature. _________________ Online Education :: Career Development Forum

I need to use my head during day time. I'm not getting heat exhaustion when I walk around just for 30 minutes or so during day time, but I do get tired more than I realize. This is why, after 30 minutes walk outside under the bright sun, I cannot help but to lie down and get some rest. This is exactly what happened today.
With regard to my Indian friend's visa, I arranged most important documents; they will arrive here shortly by mail, so I'm waiting for them. I am cautiously optimistic, but I'm a pessimist by nature, so I have hard time feeling optimistic about anything.
I know that I need to take my work more seriously, but I want to take a short (or preferably long) vacation at this point. I feel tired both physically and mentally for variety of reasons ...
... ok, I know that it's kind of a taboo to eat beef here, but I want to eat good juicy steak with fine robust red wine, not Indian red wine. _________________ Online Education :: Career Development Forum

There is a storm outside right now. It's so windy and dusty. Weird weather and I just don't understand what's going on around here; it was pretty damn hot but there was no wind this morning. This storm came from nowhere. _________________ Online Education :: Career Development Forum

Enlightening conversation with an Indian teenager ...
Just to be clear, I was not doing anything inappropriate.
I was chatting with a 16 years old Indian girl, and I was delighted to find out that there is a common thought shared among teenagers around the world. 14, 15 to 25, 26 are formative years, and this is when youths tend to see the society antagonistically. In case of Indian teenagers, parents' being overprotective and not letting their children, in particular, teenage girls do what they want to do (mostly really innocent stuff) and arrangement marriage are things that they cannot simply accept. Understandable and I feel relieved that the basic premise of Rock 'n' Roll does exist in India ... _________________ Online Education :: Career Development Forum

Fascist government of India resumes sealing (closing of shops and other businesses ...)
I mentioned about sealing (closing of shops and other businesses ...) in Delhi / New Delhi a while back. Delhi government stopped it for a couple of months, but it's been resuming sealing since a couple of weeks ago. I was at my friend's office today, and the fascist government was just closing shops and other businesses in the block right next to his office block. There is a small chance that his office will be sealed by the end of the day. There is a fair change that it will be sealed in a couple of days.
Pretty crazy. This government suddenly decides to close down a bunch of businesses because it feels like it. Hundreds of thousands of people will be unemployed for no good reason ... _________________ Online Education :: Career Development Forum

Pretty interesting development. His shop/factory hasn't been closed yet. What he's doing next is that he'll empty his shop/factory in the coming days and make it look like there are no business activities taking place. If the evil government buys into this, then he can get by for the time being. He'll set up the shop/factory again and resume his business.
What's going on here is just crazy. If I were him, I might be getting heart attack ... _________________ Online Education :: Career Development Forum

My wife's Auntie in Delhi wanted to visit Australia for a month or so and had to arrange a Visa.
He asked my wife to sponsor her. First off, this turned out to be impossible as she needed a son/daughter to do the sponsoring. Being a cousin wasn't enough (!).
Secondly it involved putting down a 5,000 to 10,000 dollars bond (again, !!!) which the Australian would keep if she didn't leave before the Visa ran out. And we wouldn't have done that because we trust this Auntie to leave about as much as the Australian Govt.
They need to know your employment in India, your income, your family, your reasons for coming, who you are going to stay with. They analyse you very carefully.
Tough, tough rules for Indians to visit. If the Govt thinks you are a risk... you might run off and become an illegal immigrant... they set impossible rules. |
