|

We're planning to visit the USA/Canada from beginning of April to mid May. Stupid time of the year for travelling but that's how it's working out.
We're not that keen on freezing our little bottoms off or singing in the rain too much, so what are good places to visit at that time of the year? Where is the temp above 10 Celcius without too much rain? Budget is of course also a consideration on that.
Loads of ideas or suggestions are of course more than welcome!!! Thanks heaps!!

As a Canadian whose seasonal work ended in May every year, I can tell you that I always headed south into the USA to find warmer weather for travel. It might pop up in Canada, but that is a poor gamble. Even in the USA the warm spots move around from day to day, so we depend on the colorful temperature map in the newspaper USA Today to guide our trips as much as any road map.
My non-skiing passion is mountain biking, so I usually make my way to Moab Utah. The weather in May ranges from very warm to very hot during the days, and it gets quite cool at night.
The outer coast of Vancouver Island in BC is a reasonable bet for moderate temperatures in Canada in May. Have a look at the town of Tofino, a good base location in that scenic area. |

To get a better idea of Canadian weather patterns, I would do some reading on The Weather Network website.
Spring in Canada can be a bit of a gamble. I would also say British Columbia (where I study), but sometimes the rain can be unpredictable. My advice is TAKE A CHANCE! A vacation in Montreal will be very affordable, and whatever discomfort you may feel weather-wise, will be more than amply rewarded with the warmth of the good food and the nice people you'll meet.
And it's so close to so many other destinations - Toronto, Ottawa, NYC - that you can easily "escape" should it get too blustery. _________________ Alice from TO

The Ski and Snowboard festival in Whistler BC is fantastic in April. The Festival features hundreds of concerts, tons of people from all over the planet all skiing and snowboarding in the sun. Think 65-75 degrees F. This is also a good time to hit Banff outside Calgary for some sightseeing and Vancouver will be mostly through with rainy season. Mountains, the ocean and west coast flair are all waiting for ya. Hope this helps. _________________ Whistler Canada |

Hi Agnes,
I would recommend sunny Palm Springs, CA. Check out the city site It is Palmsprings.com I am a new poster so they won't let me hyperlink it. Sorry. The temperatures will be in the mid 80's to low 90's (30-35C). What is nice about Palm Springs is it is a desert. We get less then 3 inches of rain a year making us the sunniest city in America.
Westjut flies here from many Canadian cities. There are many hotels and restaurants in all sorts of budget ranges in town.
Enjoy yourself. We moved from Chicago 12 years ago and love living here. Tom[/url] |

Spring in eastern Canada really isn't so bad... The best strategy is to dress in layers and adjust accordingly.
I don't think you'll have to worry about freezing if you pack a few key clothing items (one light sweater, one thicker sweater, one windbreaker, solid pair of walking shoes, a light scarf, gloves are unnecessary).
I actually love travelling in April and May - with spring in bloom and the air so crisp. _________________ Alice from TO

I would definitely agree that Sunny and Beautiful Orlando would be the Ideal Place to Visit at that time of the year. Just the sheer amount of places to go, things to see and fun you can have should be enough for anybody. _________________ Beautiful Disney/Orlando Villas for Rent - VillaZone.com |

may can be a great time to travel...it is a crapshoot, but chances are you'll be fine. BC is your best bet, but i drove across canada from banff to toronto a few years back in may, and we had warm sunny weather the whole way...except of course for winnipeg!
i would hit up vancouver, whistler, banff and calgary areas. or head east to toronto. the further east you go, the farther north...for example, quebec city (a must) will still be cold and rainy for sure...possibly even have snow in april! by the end of may, it is excellent.

strange that you would recommend orlando only...and so heavily...since you are in the business of renting villas there...
maybe give them some choices, no? |

Okay, I may be a little bit biased since I live in Niagara Falls, but you should DEFINiTELY come to the Falls in April/May. Yes, I live here, and I want people to come, but I don't always think it's gorgeous. For instance, it's kinda nasty out right now, and the snow is getting old and dirty. But SPRING...It is probably the prettiest time of year to visit here, when the tulips are in full bloom, and the fruit trees are blossoming. It is especially beautiful along the wine route. (Did you know the Niagara Region is also famous for making wine?)
A lot of people don't believe that Peach trees actually grow in this area, but there is a small area between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario where it is warm enough for even peaches to grow! They call this little area the "fruit belt." _________________ Heartlyn

Well, I could send you a picture, but it would just look like any other peach orchard. I guess you'll have to come and see for yourself. _________________ Heartlyn

Uh-huh, just as I thought, no solid evidence... Heartly why don't you forget those New York wines and try some wines from California, gives you less of a headache. ROTFL
BTW, I have visited the Niargara Falls area, in the summer, very beautiful region.
Just wondering, do the Falls freeze and if so, can you walk on them? _________________ A sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life--W.A. Ward |
