Loved your report Gard, we went to Dubai this year for a week in July - a special treat to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Had a fabulous week and can't wait to go back. We stayed at the Jebel Ali Hotel and due to the heat did very little but chill out. My husband played golf every morning (don't ask, I know he's barking mad!) and we then spent the day by the pool or the sea. Bliss. Hotel was first class, service wonderful, whole place was spotless.

You put us to shame as you did far more exploring than we did, our excuse was the heat, but you can't choose when your anniversary is can you? My husband travels to Dubai regularly on business and has done most of the trips you mentioned, so we felt we didn't have to.

It was quite a culture shock and despite telling my teenage daughters to dress appropriately they attracted alot of attention - blonde and red-hair was bound to I suppose. Plenty of Sheikhs in their long flowing robes in the bars at night often hoping to make business contacts.

People were very friendly, food was fabulous, and we managed to find some bargains shopping, so we will go back.
