|
|
Our trip across the USA is almost upon us. We are driving from NY to New Orleans to Santa Fe (for Christmas) to San Francisco (for New Year ) over 3 weeks.
One of the questions that has arisen is whether we will be able to easily visit the Grand Canyon - since our trip is in the depths of winter (13th december to 5th january) . Does anyone know how cold / snowy the Grand Canyon gets at the end of December? Will we be able to drive up to the edge and look in? My companion is very worried about missing it as one of her friends who visited in May said it was too snowy to get to the North Rim and the South Rim was the coldest she could remember. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a decent, reasonably priced place to stay over Christmas at Santa Fe or New Year in San Fransisco? |

I've never been at the time you are going. However, i've definitely read that the north rim is snowed in during winter but the south rim is kept open. _________________ http://www.uk-2-usa.com

I have visited the Grand Canyon area in December a few times. My experience with the weather has been mixed. Very cold to mild, but never severe enough to block access to the south rim. The North Rim is out of the question and the access road is likey closed anyway.
Here is some weather information;
