I have heard one or two stories of people being stopped at customs because of their luggage testing positive for explosive residues, despite the owners being quite innocent.
It seems there might be two possible causes of this. 1) the residue is sometimes common on the travel gear of skiers who ski off piste where explosives may have been used to activate avalanches. or 2) hand creams can be responsible as they contain glycerine or silicone which will show up as positives for explosives.
So, if you're an extreme skier or a victim of wrinkly hands (if both, God help you!), then let this be a warning to you...

| Frequently explosives residue is detected on the baggage of military personnel, particluarly those who deal with or handle munitions on a regular basis. So, if you've just been hunting and have been handling ammuntion, there is a good chance you could have traces of explosives detected. |
