Two men and a 13-year-old boy accused of shooting dead a hotel gardener as they robbed British tourists in a terrifying attack have appeared before a Jamaican court.

Colin Gordon, 28, Bryan Pringle, 32, and the 13-year-old were arrested late last month and charged with murder, robbery with aggravation and conspiracy, police spokesman Damion Ricketts said. The boy was charged as an adult.

Judge Hernel Johnson remanded them in custody until their next hearing on October 21. They were not required to enter a plea.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for a fourth suspect, Carlton Smith, who they believe was the leader of the group, Ricketts said.

Bandits armed with guns and machetes stormed the Falcon Cottages resort in western Negril, 42 miles south west of Montego Bay, on September 18. They burst into several cottages, kicked down doors and robbed six tourists – five Britons and a Canadian of cash and credit cards. Gardener Robert Legg, 28, may have been shot as he tried to intervene, police said.

Falcon Cottages has five cottages and 26 rooms, with prices starting from £23 a night. The resort is a 15-minute walk from the famous Seven Mile Beach.
