The Burj al Arab is truly gorgeous having to been to Dubai for 3 weeks. It's a very weird place though Dubai!
As for being self proclaimed 7* hotels... well bit up themselves isn't it? Then again, are there many hotels that have their own helicopter landing pad and tennis courts on the roof? LOL! |

i agree to that statement. all 7-star hotels are self-proclaimed. _________________ Hotel Finder |

Apparently there are only three hotels in the world that are seven star hotels;
the Town House Galleria in Milan was the first, followed by the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
There are a few other seven star hotels under construction. These include the Laucala Island in Fiji, Morgan Plaza to be finished in Beijing, China, the Flower of the East under construction as well as the Solar Powered Hotel on Kish island, Iran. The Centaurus Complex under construction in Islamabad, Pakistan, the Grand Chola in Chennai (India), a complex planned for Metro Manila and The Royalties Castle for Davao City in the Philippines. _________________ India Travel Plan |

There are many seven star hotels I have seen, apart from 4 star or 5 star hotels. The Burj Al Arab in Dubai is the luxurious hotel and Dubai is not the only place, there are some other places also with seven star hotels. _________________ Hotels in Pacifica |

I think it should be even more expensive if people can afford to pay so much money, why not 200 euros. those who want to stay in 7 star hotels should pay for those who can't |

| The number of hotels having more than six star is less in a country due to several reasons.There should be enough customers available regularly.Also it needs very high amount of initial investment. |

I think tour operators just like to put across that such levels of diversity are possible even in the five star hotel categories.
Perhaps its too easy to obtain 5 star status, and so to counteract this you get tour operators keen to put across that actually, hotel A is a lot more appealing than hotel B.
In the same way that George Orwell said 'every animal is equal, but some are more equal than others' I think that its true to say 'some 5 star hotels are clearly better than others' |

I think that self proclamation of status and number of stars is more hype that real. It's a form of self-advertising and promotion and a way to say 'look at us, we have the wow factor, come take a look'! . They have to be pretty good in the first place and if it's the Burj in Dubai, then it is. And I reckon it works, word of mouth and chinese whispers and soon everyone is talking about it. It worked here after all! This thread has attracted a fair number of contributors so far!
