Hello all

I'm very pleased to announce that there WILL be an Aardvark Travel calendar for 2006.

First off, I would like to say a VERY big 'thank you' to Jochen for his help with this. (As regular visitors to this forum will know, Jochen is a talented amateur photographer and runs the PixelPower website.) He has provided us with all the photographs.

Attached below is a sneak preview of what you can expect the calendar to look like... as you can see, there's a good mixture of landscapes, people and wildlife.

The calendar is available to buy from Cafepress at this link and costs $14.99. Please note this is the Cafepress rate. (Neither myself or Jochen actually make anything on this!)

I hope you'll agree that they make great Christmas presents... Xmas

Happy shopping,

Aaron

PS - Jochen, if you get a moment, please could you do a post telling us all about each photo...? Where/what it is, any difficulties/funny stories surrounding each pic, etc... thanks, I'm sure people here will appreciate a bit more background on the pictures.

On the calendar itself, it won't say... no. But I'm sure Jochen will be only to happy to post here and tell us the various locations. (In the unlikely event that he's not, I am sure we can work it out by visiting the travel section on his website as everything on there is categorised by location.)

You could, but I'm gonna save you the trouble. Laughing

I still think chosing nothing but my pics is way too much honour for me. Mind you; I've been shooting digital for quite some time, but my 6Mp dSLR is not even 2 years old. So the only pics that are technically speaking "sufficient" for this type of printout are all less than 2 years old.

In fact, we tried a few scenarios, such as choosing 13 landscapes. But the problem is; I only have summer landscapes (well I hate winter really Embarassed ), and my best landscapes are taken in pano-shape. Not a thing that looks nice on calendar. On top of that, I did not have much destinations to choose from. At least not @ 6Mp.

So in the end, we made a mix of scenery shots, wildlife shots, and people-shots. I hope the calendar still comes accross as very "travel" related. Basically Paul had 6 or 7 shots he really liked, we had some we both liked, and I had some that I thought would look great too. We just threw them together.

The only problem is that a lot of shots are still taken in ONE foreign country. Laughing But hey, nobody would know that, just by looking at the pics. Wink

So if you really want to know:

1 ) Is an old Mill at "De Gavers", Belgium. De Gavers is a small nature reserve near Kortrijk.Pic was taken two weeks ago at sunrise.

2 ) Is a pic from Schwarzwald, Germany. Taken in May. I believe the town is called St. Roman.

3 ) Is two fishermen on a small river, somewhere near Maracaïbo lake, Venezuela.

4 ) Is taken on a tulip show in Groot Bijgaarden, Belgium. Every spring,a lot of tulips are planted in the garden of the castle of Groot Bijgaarden. More info: here. Pic is taken in spring 2004.

5 ) Is taken on the Los Llanos planes somewhere. The "Llanos" are located between Andes mountains and the Orinoco river, Venezuela.

6 ) Another pic from Venezuela. An old guy, that was talking to his buddies on the Coro town square next to the church.

7 ) This is a small "island" in the Morrocoy nature reserve near Chichiriviche, Venezuela.

8 ) Venezuela, once more. Another "Llanos shot". don't ask me where exactly.

9 ) Is a sunset taken near the harbour of Puerto de Tazacorte, on La Palma island. La Palma is one of the Canary islands of Spain, off the coast of Morroco.

10 ) People walking in the desrt near Coro, Venezuela, at sunset. Coro is a small town inbetween Maracaïbo lake and the Caribbean sea.

11 ) Iguana in a tree, in one of the city parks of Maracay, Venezuela.

12 ) Venezuela, one last time. A shot of the Andes, taken somewhere between Mérida and Sierra Nevada NP.

I hope you like 'em. Next year, if Paul still wants me to provide some pics Embarassed , I promise more diversity. After all, I'll have some other destinations to choose from then (Like Tanzania & Zanzibar Razz )

Oh, and the cover shot is Venezuela too. Taken from the beach of Henri Pittier NP. But we replaced the albatross by a more beautifull animal.

Anyway, for those who buy this year's edition, I've got something extra up my sleeve. More info soon. VERY soon. Cool

Here you go!

Every year, I make a desktop calendar for my friends & relatives. Just a pic per month, a calendar on it, and my log in the bottom (where it is actually hidden by the Windows task bar).

This time I made an "Aardvar version"; I just added AardvarkTravel"s logo (a different one every month).

Those who buy the Aardvark calendar, get the desktop calendar too!

There's 2 versions:

1) The 1280x960px version (17" and 19" desktop)

2) The 1600x1200px version (21" desktop)

I ordered mine today. I didn't realize that there's quite a spread of Aardvark items...shirts, bibs, mouse pads, license plate frames, magnets. Got myself a shirt, too.

Actually those other items are never something I've tried to push. I was just dabbling with Cafepress one day a couple of years back... I never really had serious plans to try and sell the stuff... I hope the image quality is OK. Please let me know what the shirt is like when it arrives.

I'm gonna order 4 calendars for some family members, this weekend.

Red tape, let me know if you want that desktop calendar as well. And if so; which type.

If you are ordering a calendar with Christmas in mind, please note that time is running out if you wish to be sure of it arriving in time. Here are the CafePress deadlines:

Super Saver - Dec 8
USPS - Dec 8
Ground - Dec 12
2 Day - Dec 19
1 Day - Dec 21
International Standard - Dec 9

Now that I've ordered four, apparently I can send other people "5$ off" coupons if I provide their email.

So to all of you; if you've got an email adress especially for spam Laughing ...you can get the calendar for 5$ less.

PS. Feels kinda weird, paying for my own pics. Razz

I got that window at checkout. Dunno if I still can get to it now. But I guess by logging in it should be possible....
