I am planning to travel to Australia for a few months and wondered if anyone can help me with a few things.
I want to go to a small outback village but I can't find any information in guides or on the internet, so does anyone know of a good place?
I also wondered if there's an airport in Cairns, because my travel guide soesn't show one, and the closest one is Brisbane, which is quite a bit away. I there's no airport, would I have to get a train there, if I am going from Sydney? How long does it take?
Thank! xXx |

Hi Frankie,
Yes there is quite a large airport in Cairns in fact it is an International Airport with daily flights to Japan, Hawaii and many other destinations around the pacific. Flights from Brisbane to Cairns is approx 2 hours. Cairns is one of my favourite places in OZ. Lots to do, fantastic for young people.
There are tonnes of outback towns you can go and visit although they are not that exciting. What state do you want to go into the Outback? Let me know and I can recomend some to you. _________________ Travel Australia & New Zealand with AusEmade

I really enjoyed Cairns as well when I was there. I would suggest that if you are looking for accommation whilst you are there, stay at Gilligan's. Its an ultra modern new hostel . We stayed for a couple of nights a great time. Its a good place to meet other travellers! _________________ Australia Travel

Fly into into Cairns, definately. If you want an outback town near there Kuranda is a nice but large one, otherwise a lovely VERY outback town can be found near the QLD/SA/NSW border called Tibooburra - gets over 40 degrees in the summer, so don't go there then. _________________ Let us help you find your perfect escape. www.TakeABreak.com.au - all sorts of places to stay, right across Australia |

Grab a fourwheel drive and head west.
See the real outback- near Cairns, Ravenshoe, Mt Garnet, Mt Suprise, Forsyth etc etc
Or head for the Corner Country (very remote travel so don't go alone). You can charter operators such as myself to take you and possibly a friend, into the real outback, to Birdsville, Innmincka, even across the Simpsn desert if you so desire. _________________ David and Justne Olsen's 4WD Tag Along Tours, Townsville Nth QLD.
