Anyone got views on either the Brathsay Lodge hotel or the Ambleside Lodge hotel both in Ambleside in the Lake District?

Hello Froggie and welcome to the forums! Wave

First off, I'll 'come clean' and tell you that both hotels are clients of our's. We designed the web site for Ambleside Lodge many moons ago, and the one for Brathay Lodge about a year or two ago, at the request of the then owners, Mr. and Mrs. Gorton.

Mr. and Mrs. Gorton originally acquired Ambleside Lodge in a pretty run down state I'm led to believe (I don't think it was a hotel at the time, more just an unused building, I think), but completely refurbished it to the hotel that it is today.

They then sold it to embark upon a similar project at Brathay Lodge which is a little nearer the town centre but nearer the road. This hotel was sold by them just a few months ago.

Both are very successful hotels. I have been shown around the rooms in each (by Mr. Gorton in Ambleside Lodge and by Mrs. Gorton in Brathay Lodge) - one thing that is certainly common to both is the spaciousness of the rooms, the cleanliness and the quality of the decor.

Neither hotel serves evening meals to the best of my knowledge (but then you're never far from the town centre) and both serve a simple breakfast (or did when I last heard). As for first-hand, independent experiences... I shall have to leave them to someone else, but I hope this is nevertheless useful! Smile

Paul
