I will be in Silloth (Lake District) for the week of August 25th . While I will be seeing friends, I would also like to take a few day trips without tiring us out too much. Any suggestions Shocked for a traveling American?

First off, Silloth is right in the north of Cumbria, so you're at least half an hour's drive from the northern boundary of the Lake District National Park. Popular towns up at the end of the Lakes include Keswick and Cockermouth, or you could venture a little further to places such as Grasmere (where Wordsworth lived) - for more information on the latter, see http://www.grasmere.com

As for what to do, it really depends what you're into. If it's something leisurely you've after, you could go on a lake cruise of Derwentwater with Keswick Launch, there's the Cumberland Pencil Museum there, and various other attractions. For a bit more of an insight into some of the things available, have a look at these sites:

Hope this helps - enjoy your trip...

Paul

There are the White Scar Caves and Waterfalls in/near Ingleton. Maybe? In Yorkshire but not far from Kendal.
Confused

Silloth to Ingleton is fair journey, probably nearing 2 hours assuming you take things at a leisurely pace (afterall, you are on holiday!). It's certainly do-able in a day, but there are many other (much nearer) attractions which you could enjoy.
