For the fifth time in six weeks, British Airways yesterday canceled Flight 223, scheduled to depart Sunday from London's Heathrow Airport to Washington's Dulles International Airport. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security indicated that cancellations for security reasons are likely to become more common.
In addition to Flight 223, British Airways canceled Flight 263 scheduled for Monday from London to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

What I really don't understand about this is why it's always the same flight. Surely if you were planning to do anything terrorism-related you'd have worked out by now that BA flight 223 isn't the ideal one to try it on?
Why does it always seem to be the same few flights by the same few airlines (all European, I notice) that get held up by these terrorist alerts? |

Yeah, you'd have thought someone in the US security services would have mentioned that their not supposed to be going after the UK - its the French their supposed to haras, unless of course they know the French would actually ask for proof... 
I don't know how many flights BA has going to the Washington per week, but I'm guessing their getting some bit of intellegence saying somethings planned against Washington and they are automatically assuming it's a BA flight.
Actually from whats emerged it doesn't sound like they know too much in the so called US intellegence services, but if someone were to try something again, wouldn't they just do it on another internal flight? Security is much more lax from what I hear (despite the talk from the gov.) and if you just set off from a relatively small airport somewhere - well, Sept 11th part 2.

Trev: There is speculation that its 223 because its also the number of a UN resolution regarding Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
The conspiracy theorist in me says that they (US or UK "intelligence") will never have a United flight cancelled, because it is a US carrier, and therefore cannot afford to lose any more money or passengers than it is already losing.
British Airways has 3 flights to Dulles, and I think United has 2, as does Virgin Atlantic. With the other two options, I'm not sure why anyone flies United. |

Hasn't anyone in BA thought about renaming the flight "224"? Nah wait a sec, this is a corp and a British one at that - would require at least 32 meetings and a £2m consultation process over the impact of changing the name for them to decide on that.
As for intellegence, yeah forgot to add the UK lot into the equation. Considering they probably all came from Cambridge & Oxford uni's I think we should all PANIC!!!
