hi. I'm 16, and this summer i'm pretty sure i'm doing a 6 week summer exchange program. I know i want to go to Europe, but i'm not sure what country to go to. I have to have 3 choices, and these are the countries i have to choose from...
Sweden
Spain
Poland
Denmark
Brazil
Estonia
Finland
Portugal
Slovakia
Norway
Czech Rep
Germany
Lithuania
Italy
Turkey
Ukraine
Romania
Serbia
I know my 1st choice is going to be Italy, and I'm not sure about the 2nd or 3rd choice
I was thinking maybe Spain as a 2nd choice, then Poland or Sweden as 3rd
Can someone who has traveled to these countries give me some advice?
I'm a 16 year old girl, and I speak a little spanish, and a little italian (very little)
I want somewhere that I would have fun, and would give me a good experience
And maybe that wouldnt be so difficult to communicate in. I know there will be language barriers but i dont know what to expect.
I no idea what to except, so if you have done an exchange program can you tell me about that too?
Thanks alot! |

It depends on your likes/dislikes, but if you're concerned about communication, then you might want to consider the Scandinavian countries. Many Scandinavians speak good English and you'll normally find it relatively easy to get by from a language point of view.

Hungary is not in your list ??!
Well chica, I think you should go to Spain, (or Italy) if you speak a little these languages. I was in Spain and I like more that country so much. All the atmosphere and culture. _________________ Travel at a low price by carpoolin'...try it.

Hello cantwait,
Spain is great. I spent 4 days in San Sebastian and 3 in Barcelona. Both cities had lots to see and do, and the people were friendly. Between the two, San Sebastian was the most fun and had a lot of young people. _________________ Geoff Hill

I agree with Paul. If you don't speak different languages then the Scandinavian countries are ideal.
I lived in Sweden for 3.5 years (original Dutch now living in Canada) and i got everything done in English (but that also meant that i didn't learn Swedish ) _________________ GHPtravel,

How about starting in Italy, and then ending in Spain. You know a little of both those languages so would be chance to improve (and Spain, if you know Spanish best, may also be a good way to relax at the end of the trip) and then throw something unknown in the middle. _________________ Panoramic Earth.com -Interactive maps with panoramic photos:

I agree with Peter.
Traveling is not necessarily about staying in your comfort zone. In 6 weeks you will be speaking that second language quite well. Go for it...
You are very lucky. Make sure you thank your parents for such a great opportunity! Have fun! _________________ Free Home Exchange..RV..Yacht |

Spain and Portugal would be my choice...
My sister loves these two countries and I have had some fun in Spain.
Lots of history if you are in to that.
Also lots of fun stuff for young adults.
Since you speak some Spanish these would be a nice fit to your travels.
That's my two cents worth -
Good luck and fun travels!!!!! _________________ Enrique "Rick" Marrufo
