Me and three of my friends are moving to Mackay in October 2008. We all have jobs and are saving every penny we make(estimated $30,000 each Canadian) and are getting jobs as Cabinet Makers when we are there. We are planning on moving there for a year and I was wondering if anybody new any good furnished places to live there or around there. Im also wondering what there is to do around Mackay and the Whitsunday islands. Also, any other suggestions about living in Australia would be greatly appreciated.

You're moving to a tropical largish country town. Expect to sweat a bit.

if you choose this option, Make sure your offered a 'normal' lease and
not a holiday rental it will be much cheaper. Most leases are 6 or 12 months
and you will need to pay 4 weeks rent as a bond /deposit (returned at
the end of lease) and 2 weeks rent in advance.

I think your next cheapest independant living choice would be a caravan
(trailer) park. some do offer bungalows or demountable units but i *think*
these are generally the same as a normal rental

You could try advertising for room and board through local classifieds
maybe through www.tradingpost.com.au or even the local newspaper
