We have members from all over on here now so I thought if we started a "What do you love about where you live?" and "What do you hate about where you live?" thread, it would be a good idea for us to each to learn a little more about the world around us... so, go on... tell us what you hate about where you live and why people should keep away... Twisted Evil

...or click here for the 'What do you love about where you live?' thread. Very Happy

Living near the English Lake District the weather is definitely one on the at least 'dislike' list as it's either wet (not called the Lake District for nothing), humid when it's sunny or cold & wet in Winter. Would much prefer to have Calgary weather which even at 22'C feels really nice.

Small roads doesn't exactly get my vote of confidence in the area either. Admittidly a motorway through the middle of the Lakes wouldn't work and I'm not so worried about that area, but just the rest of the roads are also pretty small. For example the road in front of Josee's house in Calgary is actually wider than the main A6 that I drive every day - nuts.

Caravans really get on my nerves. Static ones I don't mind as they don't get in the way (well except those being transported), but why on earth do people feel the need to take their blinking house with them and then tow it with a massively underpowered Ford Fiesta?

Speed cameras which have apparently been removed by the sensible people of Alberta (Canada) so it's much less likely they'll worry about you doing 75mph at 3am on an empty road over there, but they will have you for driving like a nutter. OK, not just a problem in the UK, but another example of how things can be done properly.

London drivers, with whom luckily I have very little contact, but they really have to give the Parisians a run for their money with their bad driving. At least in Paris that's normal however and actually looks quite fun in places, but this is the UK so an appeal to London drivers - please remember we don't all live there!

Erm, did I mention the weather...? Smile

Trev... you can't half be miserable sometimes! Laughing I'll post in the "What do you love about where you live?" thread later, so people get a more accurate reflection of what it's like here. Wink

We have toooo many Speed Cams in the UK !!! They soo cause accidents with sudden braking .and .too many road signs in the UK .you spend more time reading signs than eyes on the road..still i suppose as long as you are obeying the signs and doing the correct speed it does not matter if you run someone over

Calgary is getting to big, too much traffic and too many people.
You cant go in to your local Wallmart on a Saturday morning, without being pushed , shoved , on top of that you have to stand in line for ever at the cashier.
(I know in my what I love thread I said I loved the people. I do , just not on a saturday morning)
Basically that's about all I hate about Calgary, Oh does hating my job count..

Which is why I will be moving in August to BC.
So stay tuned for I what i hate about Vernon, BC.

Has to be the constant drizzle and rain and mist that goes on for weeks at a time during the Scottish summer.

and that traffic jams in July and August when the caravan brigade hit our single lane country roads

Other than that it's a hard country to fault................lol:

Definitely the traffic and offensive amount of SUVs on the road.

Here in Germany, I love the culture, the location in Europe, the beer, most of the food, the people for the most part are very nice to foreigners. I dislike the typical German breakfast, usualy consisting of bread, meat slices, and cheese, having to continue driving for 20 minutes at times before you can turn around when you miss a turn on the autobahn.

Lets see,
Mill Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Mill Park... Well, apart from being an hour plus traffic jammed drive from my work, I guess being an outer suburb it's a bit dull and quiet.... tucked away from the excitement of the middle of the city... but ummm... that's also a good point about the place.

Melbourne.... we're so far from the rest of the World. Tucked away in our little corner of the planet. So far from the "Real Action" in Europe and Asia and America. Which is why Aussies are such big travellers, and so many Australians emigrate to work overseas.
But ummm, that's also a good point about the place.

HONG KONG

Weather
Spring - very humid, rain usually
Summer - extremely hot, muggy

Environment
- Hong Kong is too tiny and everywhere is people. Too crowded to go out during holiday.
- Serious air and sea pollution, there are not many clean beautiful beaches in here

Living
- Rents in HK are ridiculously high
- The money you buy a tiny apartment here is enough for you to buy a big house and car in Canada

Where I live is relatively rural so all the things you miss from city life are present, such as less jobs, entertainment etc.

Here in Melbourne there are too many Pommies, however once I went to London where the problem is even worse. Laughing

Right now it's winter. it's too damn cold for me. Maybe Queensland would be better, but in Summer it get's humid. Perhaps I need an RV so I can chase the weather.

London -
Traffic noise, jams, pollution.
Urinating in streets and litter levels.
Expensive local transport costs.
Politicians claiming to make changes to the above with little effect

Lost tourists Wink

I've got a ridiculously fast motorcycle which is almost impossible to get out of 2nd gear without either a speed camera going off or a horde of coppers following me as I exit my drive.

In the UK we seem to have a fixation with road safety that is bordering on the obsessive, even to the point when safety is only an excuse for another splash of paint on the road or an entirely random mini roundabout.

town planners in England drink at work too much! Twisted Evil Rolling Eyes Shocked Very Happy Laughing
