No, nor would I. Only Anheuser Busch use 'Bud', Budvar use 'Budweiser Budvar' (now available in the US as 'Czechvar'!). In many other countries, only Budvar is allowed to use the name 'Budweiser', in the UK both companies can. |

Couldnt agree more. Ive never seen more variety of beer as in the pubs of the UK. Ive had a great time here just trying the different beers and chatting w/ the locals. Two things...
1) I dont know how any one drinks budweiser or miller.. they both are shit.
2) Why has no1 here mentioned Belgium.. def the best beers in the world... and im a proud Aussie beer drinker... we do make a mean lager however...
Cheers,

You've not paid proper attention, Mark, there was a fair bit of mention of Belgium on the first page (this thread has gone on and on, must be a favourite subject!). ;-)
And I have to agree, though I love my English ales, heaven would be stocked with Belgian beers. |

Although I agree Belgian beers are superb, the problem I always have is their strength. It's rare indeed to find a Belgian beer <5% and usually the best ones are 7% or more. Two or three of those and it's Game Over.... Whereas British beers vary from 3% all the way up to 11-12%. So I can go out and sample 6 or 7 without keeling over.....
As for Budweiser v Budweiser.... it's strange that Anhauser Busch basically say that Budvar steal their Budweiser trademark. In actual fact, Budweiser is an anglicisation of Budejovicer... or beer from Budejovic... an area of Czechoslovakia where the original Czech brewer is based. In other words, it's like trying to make a trademark of the word Pilsner (a beer from Pils). What the Czech side say is that Budweiser is really a style of beer, so they should be able to market their beer as a Budweiser style beer. And seeing as it's at least a 1000x better, I completely agree. Cheers! _________________ Track your Euros here

Hello!!!
I've seen San Miguel mentioned but what about Spanish beer... took a little getting used to after my habit of drinking pints of wifebeater in the UK (Stella Artois to non UK'ers) but I love it now.
Cruzcampo, Estrella, Mahou etc. They freeze the glasses so it's really ice cold.... yum! _________________ www.freefalladdicts.com/index.shtml

Beer (and any brewed-hop drinks) is a taste I've no intention of acquiring. Now if you discuss which country produces the best Cider or Vodka, the situation would be quite different.
Dan. |
Dan you are a sick puppy. Your views on beer are ridiculous. Beer is the greatest drink in the world. Using the word vodka and taste in the same paragraph is absurd. Vodka gets you drunk. The only flavour is the alcoholic bite.
My favourite beer is the first one. My next favourite is the second.... _________________ Free Home Exchange..RV..Yacht |

I have to admit, San Miguel is very refreshing on a hot day... but think that you can define a beer's quality by the temperature it's served at.... the colder it needs to be served, the lower the quality! This is because the warmer the beer, the better the flavours develop, and the more rounded the taste.... serving something at below zero simply dulls all senses and stops any taste developing at all (hence the bizarre move by Guinness to selling ice-cold stout.... a beer style that is supposed to be robust and full of flavours - too much so for many peoples' tastes - so serve it so cold that any hint of remaining flavour is lost) _________________ Track your Euros here

Ah...fond memories of beer in Spain, although not for the taste
Cruzcampo and Mahou are just decent beer...nothing too special. A heineken still beats them in my book |

All this mention of German beer....
best beer comes from Bavaria of course! In Bavaria we don't even drink beer from the north of Germany. The purity law (only ingredients allowed are hops, water and barley) is still adhered to and dates back to 1516. Every other beer is considered "headache beer" as you get nasty hangovers from additives and preservatives. You all just go ahead and drink all that horrible stuff that obviously needs flavourants and additives to make it drinkable. The Oktoberfest has become too crowded anyway

That is so true, but not always understood by publicans, who sometimes think that serving ale as cold as possible in hot weather is a good idea. Some don't understand why it can be 'too cold'.
There's an old story that, when draught Guinness was first introduced to Australia, the temperature demanded by local custom was so low that Guinnesss had to boost the flavours in the beer so that the taste would come though. |
