| Next year in april we'd like to visit Siem Reap out of Bangkok. From there we would go to Phnom Penh and from PP returning to Thailand via Koh Chang. We prefer to voyage by bus/car/train. What are the possibilities to do this trip? Is it safe to do this by our own? |

Hi,
I was in Cambodia a few years back, and did more or less the trip you describe. I had a wonderful time, Cambodia is very easy to travel in, and fairly cheap. Thereīs lots of wonderful things to do.
I spend 4 days at Ankor Wat, three days with a driver on a motorbike, and one day on a bicycle - which was actually the best day, you seem to get a lot less hassel when you move about on a pushbike... maybe the locals think you have less money...
I caught a fastboad to PP, and it was an OK trip... not always comfortable, but it dosenīt take that long, so no worries...
Anyway, donīt worry, just enjoy, itīs a wonderful country... I was traveling as a single woman - a blonde even... and I had no problems at all...

The trip is perfectly safe as it is Cambodia in general. A few advices. Take an early moring bus from Mochit Tai bus station and be as early as possible at the immigration point where you can get the visa in 5-10 minutes. When in Poipet you can chose to travel by shared pick up or rent your own car for a 3-5 hours trip to Siem Reap. Roads condition is much improved now compared to a few years ago. The boat trip to Phnom Penh is fine, altought seats are quite small on board, and this is probably why many people prefer to stay on the roof of the speedboat all the way (Do not forget some ears plugs, or you will get half deaf for a while). Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville is a 2,5 hours trip as this is probably the best road as easy the speed boat trip from Ko Chang to Thailand.
My suggestion if you have time: from Poipet you could go to BATTAMBANG, whit a 2/3 hours trip, then from there take a slow or fast boat trip (impossible to know what you will find) to Siem Reap and Angkor. I hope this will help you a bit. |
