Hi Joe,
Please take the time to introduce yourself here.

As for places to visit in Australia,
I found Australia to be beautifull where ever I ended up. It also depends on what your interest are.
For example if you like city life, beaches, remote places. Australia can offer it all.
However for the 1st visit , I would recommend Sydney and the Gold coast for the beaches.

Joe,
Australia is a very large country .. roughly the same size as the US but without such a good road system - so you will need to decide exactly the kind of things you like to see and do before making any bookings.
Perth is in Western Australia - a 4 hour + flight from the East Coast where the bulk of the population live so where there are more things to see and do.
IMO Sydney is good for nightlife and of course the famous sights such as the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, Gold Coast beaches are not necessarily all they're "cracked up to be" in the media - crowded, "touristy" and the sun gets blocked out mid afternoon by the high rise apartments everywhere.
Depending on whether you want a high tourist destination or peace and quiet you'd be better off further south on the Tweed Coast - some of the best surf beaches + long stretches of sand with no one on them ... be aware that this also means sparse life-saving so if you plan to swim/surf make sure you head for a patrolled beach.
The Tweed area is where we live, so obviously I'm a tad prejudiced, but it IS the area with FIVE World Heritage Listed National Parks etc. etc. etc. (I could bore you for hours on what we have in this area
If you want to see the Great Barrier Reef (35 miles offshore so a boat ride is necessary) then Cairns is a good spot. For "bare boat" chartering, you''d head for the Whitsundays, for the "cafe society" you'd head for Noosa, for miles and mile of nothing with a dirty great rock in the middle you'd head for Alice Springs.
So in summary - decide the kind of things you like, how much time you have, if you can afford to fly around the country or if you'll be driving - and then drop me a line and I'll see if I can suggest an itinerary for you
cheers for now

Roma and Kalgoorlie are where everything happens man. EVERYTHING.
Just get yourself to one of those towns and everything else will take care of itself. _________________ -----

Spent a month touring the East Coast in January. The place I fell in love with would have to be Brisbane..Not to be missed.Sydney..Gold Coast ..Noosa ..
Surprisingly theres not much too see in the capital..Canberra..Pairlament House..Oh yeah and the little world was enjoyable
Darling Harbour is popular but it didnt impress me much..
And as for Melbourne..The coast is nice but not much to do at all except the famous casino! What a sight:)
Hope Ive been helpful..
Enjoy |

Hi there,
The best thing would be to get a copy of lonely planet (no, I don't work for them), and get a car and drive... obviously the more time you have the more you will see, but you can then stop and see the things you want, whether that is beaches, history, culture etc. It is a HUGE country, so don't underestimate it - 12 hours at least to drive from Sydney to Brisbane if you want to get a map and see how far that is. Driving 3-4 hours any one day would be more than ample
If you let us know what you like, what you are looking for I can help with specific suggestions: _________________ Let us help you find your perfect escape. www.TakeABreak.com.au - all sorts of places to stay, right across Australia |

In my opinion one of the biggest attractions to coming to Australia is meeting the locals and I mean outside of the big cities. When Im travelling in the countryside I am constantly amazed at the generosity and humour of aussie people and when you are a foreigner it gets even better. _________________ Travel Australia & New Zealand with AusEmade

If you're here during footy season, you have to go to the MCG (in Melbourne) on the day of a big game. The noise and atmosphere of 60 to 80,000 people supporting thier teams is unforgettable. Go-Pies!
And it's affordable. Still under $20 general admission.
