After a 7-year absence, scalloping was re-introduced to Citrus County, Florida, last July. And tourism officials are running a survey to try and pinpoint exactly how many dollars are being generated for tourism as a result of scalloping alone.

Once all the data is collected, they will try to decide if scallop season significantly affected the local economy in Citrus County. If so, then the county could receive additional funding and assistance from other government agencies.

Early indications are that it has had a positive impact with some businesses reporting that trade is up by 50%. Shocked

Ok so what is scalloping?

A scallop to me is a shellfish but this topic isn't under Food and Travel so I assume it is something different.

Scalloping is collecting scallops. This could equally have been posted under Food & Travel... it's just the USA forum has been a little quiet of late, so it won my vote instead. Smile

. . . ah!

Take four rations of bacon and cook in frying pan until almost crisp. Add four or five scallops continue to fry until cooked (2 or 3 mins), serve and eat! WOWEEEEEEEEEEE!

That sound delicious... I love scallops but don't get to have them often enough. It's just not the sort of thing you tend to see in the shops here...

Don't you have any of the large supermarkets with wet fish counters? They usually sell scallops even if sometimes they have been frozen. Morrisons has a very good wet fish counter.

Yes, we have a Morrisons. I must have a closer look next time I'm in.

Thanks
