Some friends advised me to look on this website and now i cannot stop reading. I hope my travel experience is useful for some people. You will think what countries I visit. Original I am from Holland and moved to UK 3 1/2 years ago. I have been in Brazil, France, Germany, Italy and Canary Island and Gabon in Africa.

Hi Coop,
What brought you to London in the first place? Can't be the climate or the space. Could be the central jump off point for your travels - see you've done a lot. I'd be interested to hear what you were doing in the Gabon, that is a bit off the beaten track.

Anyway, welcome and I hope you find the forums useful.

Hi Peter,

Yes a good question why i went to London. A big company offered me a job and with in 1 week I was in the UK and since then I stayed here. The job climate is much better in the UK then back home in Holland. Why did I visit Gabon? The answer is very simple, my wife is from Gabon and that’s why I visit Gabon. It is a French speaking country but I am to lazy to learn French Wink

Well that has to be a very good reason to visit Gabon. Guess you must communicate in English then?

What is Gabon like? You have the advantage of being put up and taken care of! If I were to go (have thought about it briefly) what would you recommend?

Gabon is not big only 1.3 million people living there where already 330.000 in the capital Libreville. Gabon has a lot of forest and 80% is forest so if you like nature you need to go. One good advice just rent a good 4x4 because the roads are very very bad even in the capital. If you like seafood then this is paradise for you because there is food enough and you can buy it fresh on the market. There is not much tourism but there are some very good international hotels.

Sounds like it could be fun, but seems that getting a visa is a nightmare and Lonely Planet -Gabon indicate that it is all very expensive. How long do you normally take to get a visa?

The time get a visa is not very long maybe 1 or 2 days and it cost around £ 50. But the biggest question if you get one because they are very strict to give Visa because you need to have an invitation letter or a letter why you want to visit and sometimes they ask for a bank statement because it is expensive in Gabon and they want to make sure you can afford the stay in Gabon. You can see that are not very tourist friendly but you always can try Cool
