Everyone wants something different on a vacation. There isn't really any answer to your questions...or there are hundreds of answers. I'd go to Chicago before I went to NYC. I'd go to Salt Lake City before vacationing in LA...and they're probably people out there who would answer the complete opposite of me.

If I wanted sun and screaming children: Orlando
If I wanted red meat and funny accents: Dallas
If I wanted national history and museums: Washington DC
If I wanted national history and funny accents: Boston

if you only got a week than you might as well save your money and stay home. there are 50 great states and each has it's own unique offerings. once you have accumulated enough to spend at least six months come and join us. we will be glad to show you around.

stay away from the cities and take in God's gifts...

national parks, state parks, etc.

all the cities are basically the same... crime and corruption... lol, just kidding city dwellers...

Really Mo, youd advise travelers to stay home if they only have a week to visit one state?
Some of my best travel memories are of quick trips that lasted maybe 4 or 5 days.
Once did a quick trip to New York - did a Broadway show & dinner in NYC, a day & night at Niagara Falls, stopped at Cooperstown at the Baseball Hall of Fame and still hit the outlets.
That New York trip was a whirlwind, required a lot of driving and transit through toll booths, but that was part of the fun. (One driver had never seen a toll booth before - getting the coin toss and the car roll right, took some practice - we laugh about that to this day.
My philosophy is , Its not the time you spend, its how you spend your time. Wink

New York is the place to be. Not only is the NYC region wonderfully diverse and fun, you're only a short distance from a lot of other great places. You're just about 5 hours from DC. You're just 3 hours from Boston and Philadelphia. All connected by excellent roadways, and also by trains. It's the perfect launching point.

The US has many nice place, but for a week I would choose New York and Chicago. Both have an interesting history and many interesting sights. New York is definitively a busy city which is always moving fast and there is enough to see and do to spent several days there without getting bored. I just loved Chicago, probably the best in the US. It had a relaxed atmosphere and the city looks like it was built by a proper architect.

If you've got some spare days left, either Boston or San Francisco would be the choice.

One Week travel to the USA! I would say New York or San Francisco.

New York there is loads to do and in one week you won't even get the change to see everything but you do get the change to see all the highlights.
San Francisco is more laid-back, if you like you can also add a day-trip to Yosemite National Park for example! Which is one of my favourite national parks in the US!

I have never been to Las Vegas or New York. If I do decide to have a holiday in the USA I might try Disneyland Florida. Anyone been?
