Even during winter!!!

[deleted]

it's a privilege to spend time there, out of season. Enjoy the air, food, and the possibility to fullfill any idea you can think of, as long as you talk to the villagers, and have a few euros ready..

I had great time going round eastern europe by train - the rail staff were so friendly and it was a great way to see places from the comfort of the train window... the trains were clean and safe too...

As for best place visited... Krakow was a real gem and very interesting but i have to hand it to Zakopane in Poland as my favourite (so far at least!).

We went there out of season when we were very frazzled by our travels and stayed in a great hotel - the mountains and cable car is great too and there a some great bars and eateries! We really recharged our batteries and at the time we were there it was pretty much deserted so it made a nice break from busy cities and towns - we stopped here and got peacefull before pushing on with Slovakia and Hungary.... and more busy cities!!

Travel in eastern and central Europe is so easy by train. I agree the system is really good and the ticket prices very affordable. No need to get any special eurail ticket or anything in these parts of Europe as you can just turn up at the train station and buy a single ticket and explore at your leisure. I have fond memories of arriving in Budapest on the night train and travelling down to Greece in the Spring seeing snow give way to green grass and the first blossoms and then the Orange trees and mysts enveloping the Greek Islands at dawn.

Prague. Though it has been blasphemed by tourism over the last decade or so.
Cesky Krumlov in Czech Republic.
Cesky Raj in Czech Republic.
Tatras (mountains) in Slovakia.
Weimar and Jena in East Germany (though I haven't been there for 16 years)

I would also go for Prague, I've been there twice now and I enjoyed it.

I found the czechs very helpful and friendly too - We got lost in the Czech Rep near Kutna Hora and, after we spent some time wandering about, a local chap pulled over said "lost???" and gave us a lift to where we were heading... again all through signs and rudimentary english...

Kutna Hora is worth a visit too...

I've never been to Kutna Hora before, but I will try it someday. Thanks for the tip.

Hi! It's August already...end of summer shortly ....
There is Polish city called Sopot, situated between Gdańsk and Gdynia cities. with beautifull beach and grand pier, bigger than this one in English Brighton...
You should consider visiting this place, when in Poland!!!
