Quite a striking image showing the scale of the ship...

Yeah it is one big (and expensive ship)

I am booked on a cruise that will be in this general vacinity in April.

It is quite interesting the response to this incident though, I have spoken with two Travel Agents and they have both mentioned people wanting to cancel future cruises with this line, and in some cases people wanting to cancel any cruise with any cruise line.

The thing is this incidient from my point of view is not something that is a daily occurance. Actually I think if you looked into it, cruise ships may be close to one of the safest forms of transport (no gaurentee but just a hunch I have) I mean take a look at wikipedia under safety on this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruise_ship just 16 fatalities from over 100 million passengers in the past 7 years, pretty good odds I think.

I will cruise plenty more times in the future, and this incident is not going to stop me from getting on a cruise ship. I mean if you are going to cancel a cruise because this happens, you better cancel getting on a plane in the future as well because this happens much more often with planes then cruise ships.

Just me 2cents on the whole thing.

Joel

Cruise ships are one of the safest forms of transport !! Sure!
The cruise itself was very safe. It was just stupid decisions of human which ended.....
Very good picture! Compare the scale of ship with houses on the coast! Amazing!
By the way, I am curious what is happening to this ship. Is still there?

It's still there and will be there for at least another year.

Heh...they amused me! The wreck has become a tourist attraction.
We can see plenty of them, getting pictures. Human nature is "difficult" one! Very Happy
By the way, I am curious whether they going to refurbish the ship and get it back to service ?!

I don't think it's known yet. Insurers will have to make a decision on the state of the ship once they get it upright and towable. It may be that it can undergo extensive repairs, it may just be that it's used for scrap.

Overall I would say that ships are safe. As they say, Its not the ships that break themselves, its the people who break the ships. I always had a lot of confidence in my captain. To guess what they would do in an emergency... no one will know until it happens.

If you do have any issues, just hope it happens during the day, when the staff are sober. I know when I worked onboard, I would often look around at my fellow intoxicated crew members and think wow, if this thing went down, the staff would be too pissed to do anything.

That's a less than comforting thought... Rolling Eyes
