| I am travelling from London, my budget is medium, and I am really interested in train travel as I am scared of flying and actually find trains relaxing. Does anyone have any tips? Any good packages out there? |

Hello welcome to the forums!
I see youre in France already.. assuming you do live in London though?
If so then Eurostar is obviously going to be a starting point. I can't think of any good packages per se off the top of my head but I believe railbookers (who specialise in train travel) have a sale on at the moment I will try and find the link.
Trains can get you anywhere in Europe and it is actually a fun experience! Much more so than planes. You can enjoy the views, stretch your legs etc.
Do you have any particular cities/countries in mind? |

| I loved the ride from Innsbruck to Munich, as well as the train ride into Narvik, Norway. Actually, any train ride in Norway is totally worth it. |

| Yes, the Munich to Innsbruck route (the one via Garmisch and Mittenwald, rather than the Kufstein route) is an absolute gem, as indeed is the journey from Sweden over the Ofotenbahn to Narvik. Both these routes feature in the book "Europe by Rail: The Definitive Guide for Independent Travellers." It may well be a volume that the originator of this thread might find of interest. The book is published by Thomas Cook Publishing. Be sure to get the latest edition, published in March 2012. You can find out a little more about the book at europebyrail.eu |

| Yeah, I actually took the train from Volda, Norway to Narvik, but it cuts through Sweden. I'm not sure if its the same route you're talking about, but it was incredible. |

I've traveled a lot by train in Germany since I have family spread over the whole country (Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne) and they really have such a beautiful landscapes in almost every region.
You could also travel to Paris first (as mentioned above, Eurostar) and then take another train to Bruxelles or Cologne (Thalys, not that expensive for early birds!). Everybody is going crazy about the German capital btw, you should definitely go there if you're into partying The Guardian has selected a few nice venues here |

Hello again,
I have to agree with sea-shelly: Germany is very nice by train - especially the Southern counties, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg because there you'll see a lot of the landscape around whilst sitting in the train. The capital, Berlin, is just an amazing city. I go there very often and I must admit I love it. It's not ONLY partying but, of course, Berlin's night life is probably the best in whole Europe. But there is also a lot of history in this city due to Berlin wall. You can still see differences between East and West Berlin... You can go there by train from Paris, Cologne (as sea-shelly recommended), Brussels or other European/German cities. |
