2 months is a lot of time. I say do the obvious first. New York and/or LA Hollywood. Then spend a week in a few other cities. Chicago is a great city that I feel represents the US pretty well. Lots to do and great people. otherwise check out Las Vegas. It doesn't represent the US, but it is a great place to spend a week. Then I would do a couple national parks. Grand canyon and yellowstone come to mind.
Not that you'll follow my advice., but thats what I would do. Or, if they like driving I would take a road trip from NY to LA. |

I spent a month last year in California. We flew into LA, stayed there a couple of nights, then got a train to San Diego, was there for 5 nights, hired a car and drove up the pacific coast highway staying in various places.
Almost a week in San Fran, a few days at Lake Tahoe, vegas for 5 nights after staying in Death Valley.
Loved it.
They can also do the much talked about route 66, but its a lot of driving _________________ Accommodation in Edinburgh | Stay in Edinburgh | Edimburgo |

Are you planning to stay in one location? Or travel the country from place to place?
One favorite of overseas visitors seems to be old US Route 66 which runs from Chicago to Santa Monica Pier in California. You can search around for that or I can give you some links and junk. If you're interested, I'll post more information.
I think the best thing you can do is search around for places that interest you. You're probably going to want to see things that impress you, based on what you usually see everyday at home. For example, my being from Brooklyn NY and living here, I want to run as far west as possible and get away from that congested city feel. For me, wide open spaces, nature, the parks and landmarks and scenic drives are what I aim for most times. Guess it all depends on what you want to see and do here.
What did you have in mind? |

| We had less then 4 weeks and saw really a lot but they can see even more in 2 months. I think you should see some cities like New York, Washington, San Francisco, Los Angeles. And of course some national parks. Utah is really great, we were in many parks there, but in 2 months you can see more. Or just take more time in every place, we were in quite a hurry. |

You must spend time in New York City! It's a magical place that lives up to every embellishment and stereotype that's ever been said about it (except perhaps the violence--it's not a particularly dangerous place).
Washington DC is another great place to visit, as it gives you a pretty interesting view of how America views itself.
I second the call to go to Chicago. My favorite American city after NYC.
Also, Grand Canyon and Death Valley are truly must-sees. If you want a taste of the South, go down through Nashville to New Orleans. Those are some fun cities and you'll get a taste of Southern America along the way.
And don't bother with LA, unless you like disappointment. Go for San Francisco instead. |

The USA is more than New York and LA. There are many places that are so very different than these two cities, but just as, if not more enjoyable depending on one's preferences.
Yellowstone National Park, a drive down the Blue Mountain Parkway, Hilton Head Beach. For cities, look at Washington DC, Chicago, Boston, San Diego, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle. Look to National Parks for inspiration.
Avoid anything with 'disney' somewhere in a name's place. _________________ My flight map. A million miles and counting....Where I’ve been around the globe. |
