My friend is travelling to see friends in Thailand in the New Year and is taking her 3 year old son on a long haul flight for the first time. She asked me for tips for keeping him entertained while on the 12hr + flight from London to Bangkok.

I dont have children so thought I'd post here to see what ideas everyone has? (Apart from dont do it!) Rolling Eyes

toddlers are very restless and won't just sit there for 12 hours, so your friend should be prepared when tagged by her kid to walk around the plane. your friend can bring new toys for his son to play with or books for him to read..when he gets tired of playing and walking around he'll just probably doze off, so just bring some extra blanket and a little pillow.

Tire them out before the flight - then at least the last few hours can be spent telling them whats going on and how they are not far!

For the younger one, you may need a few things like toys or psp to keep them entertained.

What time of day is the flight?

If I was travelling long haul with our two little ones, I think I'd try to make sure it was in the evening. They wouldl still stay up til later than normal with all the excitement, but they would eventually doze off.

All the usual things like books, colouring, card games, I-spy, etc. can help but they're each probably only capable of filling 15 minutes here and there. Portable DVD players can also help, but I'd suggest one with headphones so as not to disturb other passengers. Even with all these things, though, 12 hours is a long time to fill, so I think an evening rather than morning flight is much more preferable.

She should buy her kid a psp or buy a little laptop so he can watch movies (planes have screens for longer flights ).

Hello everyone,

Here are few tips..

# If your child is old enough to understand, talk to him or her about what to expect in the airport and on the plane

# Give your child the window seat. This will give him or her something to look and will keep him or her from distractions in the aisle.

# Bring along a backpack filled with favorite toys and books and some new ones. Give out a new toy or game every hour or two or when your child seems to be getting restless.

# As your flight progresses, explain to your child what is happening and where you are in your flight.

I think its depends on the age of the children's.If he is under 4 then play with her & trying to speak with him.Under10 then you can entertained your children through jokes or buy a Electronic game for him.

3 years old children are usually interested to sweets, drawing, music etc.. But as a boy it might like small cars, robots, cowboys, maybe video games.. 12hours is long, the child will sleep as well.

Take some toys, books, etc that your child has never seen before. They have much more impact if they are 'new' and exciting..
