The Loretto Chapel And The "Miraculous Stairway"
The stairway, which was built after the construction of the chapel, has no center post, is not connected to any wall, is built without the use of any steel fasteners (nails or screws) and is built of wood found nowhere in the area. Legend has it that it was built by a carpenter sent by God in answer to the nuns prayers for a way to get to the choir loft other than the ladder they had been using. The carpenter, who no one knew, just showed up one day and told the nuns he could build them a stairway.

Brilliant post! Most have taken you a while to add those photos.
I drove across Route 66 3 years ago and absolutely loved it. Met some wonderful people during the drive across. |

We are getting ready to go on a Route 66 trip. It will be me, my hubby and our 3 and 1.5 year old. We'll probably be leaving from Chicago in April. I've been researching guidebooks and sites to see. I came across your post on the Historic Route 66 forum. I decided to check out your link. I'm glad I did! You have some awesome pictures here! Really great job. Thanks for posting them for the rest of us to enjoy. I'm bookmarking your page to refer to on our trip! It's really great of you to take the time to share all of these. I can't wait to get out there on the road. You should put together your own picture book. This is really great! |

Glad you both enjoyed. Actually I did the post on another Forum which recently closed so all I actually had to do was copy and paste the codes which fortunately i had saved.
Have a great trip p0testi0!! Someone on Historic 66 can answer about any question you might have. |

p0testi0 - You might want to check out my "Journey Through Utah" thread - it makes for one tremendous side trip from 66 if you have the time.
