| I created a topic asking if others had been scammed by a rental company in Scotland and warning others of this scam. I received an email saying a reply was given to the thread but now the thread doesn't exist. Was it deleted or something? |

Yes, it was removed (by me).
1. You posted in the Eastern European Forum (when it was about Scotland)
2. It was your first post here. You didn't even bother to introduce yourself (as it says in red to do so) or get involved with the existing discussions first.
3. ...and the main reason:
Think about it. If you post accusations and allegations about other companies on a public forum such as this, who's that company going to take to court for damages if they wish to contest the issue?
Is it going to be you? No. They don't have your contact details or any means of getting them. Plus you are based in another country making you difficult to pursue. Instead, they're going to chase the site publishing the allegations. ie. the owners of Aardvark Travel. I'm sorry, but however legitimate your grievances may be, that's not a bill this site would be willing to foot. _________________ UK Hotels - UK Selfcatering - UK B&Bs - UK Attractions

So you think it's fine for someone else to have to pay the costs to defend your unsubstantiated allegations?
If you can't understand why someone might not want to do this (which I assume to be the case since you are "just shaking my head at this"), then it suggests you don't have a very good understanding of basic UK libel law.
From 'basic libel for idiots' ( http://www.urban75.org/info/libel.html ):
| Quote: | | In the UK, if someone thinks that what you wrote about them is either defamatory or damaging, the onus will be entirely on you to prove that your comments are true in court. In other words, if you make the claim, you've got to prove it! |
Ergo... the owners of the Aardvark Travel website would be deemed to be the ones making the claim since they are agreeing to its publication and would then have to prove that the bad things you wrote about the car hire company were justified. How could they do this when they are not party to the case?
If you read that link further, you'll notice it also states:
| Quote: | | On the web, the writer, the web site owner and the ISP can all be sued just like the writer, the magazine and the distributor in the print field. |
